Hi
I am not part of the union, occupational health have advised I join them.
Does anyone know how long I have to be a member with them before I can involve them in any work related issues.
Thanks

It varies, and there is some discretion.
BUT typically unions wont pick up issues which occurred prior to membership - unless there's a wider implication to other members.0 -

Quite rightly so - otherwise everyone would just join when they needed help and not before.
The whole idea of a union is that workers unite - all together for mutual benefit - not for individuals to let everyone else pay subs and then join at the last minute just when they hit a problem.0 -

Totally agree. It's like buying house insurance when the fire fighters are leaving.0 -

I think you misunderstood:
1: that post wasn’t aimed at you
2: you aren’t in a position to moderate what I write0 -

.. and I guess that reaction / attitude is what your colleagues find so endearing .0 -

Some of the replies could possibly have been worded less aggressively, but the content was accurate. Many people do think they can join a union once they have a problem, and then expect support for a pre-existing issue. The insurance analogy is a fair one.
If you think there is a problem coming up and you can join the union before the proverbial hits the fan you may get union support.
I'm no fan of unions, having worked through the 70s and 80s when they were at their militant worst, but they are there to work for their paying members.0 -
1) I started the thread so there’s no other way to take it
2) clearly someone needs to moderate your posts, I’ve seen your previous posts and you appear to start on people for no reason0 -

It's a public forum, you don't own the thread.
Cool, feel free to put me on your ignore list. I certainly wont be assisting you again.0
