Why? You'll have a nit pick list as long as your arm as they list out bits they want you to buy to put the car back as "brand new".

Haha. You are right. They quoted £3,200. I will take it to local garages now and see what they suggest.

i would say this noise comes from a stopped working hydraulic lifter/tapped. could be oil related - simply incorrect oil filled in or worn of.

Thanks. This is what I suspected after servicing the car(oil related). However, I had the oil changed at Halford last week and I still hear the noise.

did they used the correct oil as ?

10-40 or 5-40 for this engine. Using another wouldn't do much short term harm. its wear and tear, using the wrong oil once wont create this issue on its own I the short term.

They've used 5w-40

When I first put the new oil which was changed a week back by Halford, there were a weird sound from the engine but the tapping or thumping sound is still there. I will have the garage to look at it.
