DVLA - missing ID and driving licence

Options
Hi,
I’m new to the forum so - sorry if my question is not in the correct section.
A week ago I posted an application to exchange a EU driving licence to UK driving licence.
I put the application, the postal order cheque, an ID and the EU driving licence in the envelope, sent Recorded delivery.
Today I’ve received a letter from DVLA that the application has been rejected as there is no ID and no EU driving licence.
I spent some time talking to Royal mail to get some info if the package was sent with no damage - but DVLA sent the letter in the same envelope and it is all good.
I checked twice if everything was in and handed it over to the post office lady who sealed it in front of me!

I’m about to send back a letter to DVLA that I have 2 witnesses that these documents were in the envelope but I’m so worried that they may have lost them somewhere and it would be a nightmare if that is actually the case..
I also opened a case with Royal mail to investigate if at some point the letter has been damaged. They said they’ll call within 48h to confirm if there is some ID found. (In case the envelope has been opened during the transit)

Anyone with lost documents by DVLA or Royal Mail?
Or any suggestion what else I could do

Thank you so much all!

  • DVLA/Royal Mail lost my passport, they sent it back as normal letter. After I complained and they asked me a few times if I'm sure I didn't get it back, they must have put complaint with Royal Mail because one day, out of the blue my passport arrived in post. It's possible your documents got lost in DVLA. You will have to wait for Royal Mail investigation and then DVLA.
  • I am having the same problem. I wanted to register a change of names, so I sent my driving license off, marriage certificate, passport etc, and a special delivery envelope for the DVLA to return my documents to me in.. I received a letter saying that I didn't include my driving licence or marriage certificate, even though I checked and the lady in the post office checked too, and they were both in the envelope. They also returned my special delivery envelope to me unused, and claimed that my passport was sent back via 2nd class post. My passport has not been returned, and they have no idea where it is. I am due to travel in 6 weeks time. I will probably have to buy a new passport, at a cost of £177. I will be getting in touch with Watchdog, as I have read so many examples of passports going missing with the DVLA. Either the DVLA staff are extremely careless, or there is something dodgier going on.

Many people. This an ongoing problem with DVLA.
  • Hi Tanya,

Did you get this sorted out or any solution from the DVLA. Did they find your documents? I am having exactly the same problem here.

DVLA are closed for all bar keyworker issues at the moment, for fairly obvious reasons. Are you a keyworker? Did you make that obvious when you sent it in?

We have been in lockdown for eight weeks now. When you posted your docs DVLA were already advising that they would not deal with any postal applications.

The court action will take months to get anywhere.  By that time, the DVLA are likely to be open again, and working through a massive pile of unread mail.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Just to reiterate what was said above the DVLA are not currently dealing with paper applications.  Had you looked at the DVLA website you would see that, so you will just need to be patient and wait.
