If people take what they read on a public forum as gospel with no further checks, then that's their problem. You have no idea who is behind the keyboard.
For the record, I do agree with this! Many posters, me included, have made this point on here before, that info posted online by random strangers shouldn't be relied on without verification, and hence it being commonplace to direct people to published Ts & Cs, etc, but that's a slightly different point from whether those strangers should take care about what they say in the first place....

I'm glad we agree on something!

There's plenty of misinformation all over these boards - and I do usually take care to phrase myself well. While I agree we should all be careful dishing out advice, I think you're being overly critical. I didn't stress that something was the absolute truth, I just phrased an opinion in an unambiguous way when it could have been phrased less definitively. I'm glad we could discuss it further, so the lurkers know to do their own research.

I disagree. If (and it may be a big if) the OP has the discipline to pay back the loan after a very short time then a PDL may be a viable option, and potentially cheaper than some other options such as overdraft while being available almost immediately.

Ruins your credit rating though. There’s even a sub category for pay day loans on noodle

Seriously? Because you feel it is an 'arrogant' post you have consciously / subconsciously responded in the manner you did. Sad, very sad.

In what manner? All i did was give my opinion that living month to month by choice is not responsible. OP was the one telling us all how great they were with very little to actually back up such claims.

And lets face it, most of the OP was just pretentious drivel.

I suspect that "Ruins" is a bit of an exaggeration, especially where the PDL is repaid within a few days.

    Oh dear.

So you don't think your perception of the situation (arrogant, how great they were, pretentious drivel), may have shaped or biased your responses in any way shape or form? :(

I'm a firm believer in personal responsibility (read my tag) but we all find ourselves in difficult situations sometimes, and sometimes it is better for posters to ignore their own perceptions of what is good / bad, responsible / irresponsible and simply offer assistance where they can.

Anyway, the OP has received some options (some with higher risks), so they can make their own choice. I just hope that one day I can be as perfect as some of the posters on this thread.

There are times though where a poster's perceptions are absolutely critical to them offering appropriate assistance.

I'm happy to say my perceptions of the OP (through their posts on this thread) are 100% responsible for the advice I felt best suited their situation. And if the OP ever comes back to the thread I would be more than happy to explain my reasoning to them. :)

To illustrate the point, if someone was going to suggest a payday loan would be a good option then 'appropriate assistance' would take into account whether the person being helped (and this isn't about the OP) appeared to understand the absolute importance of repaying the loan in full the moment they were able to. If someone posted on the forum in a way that made it clear they were unable to prioritise repayment of debt, would any responsible forum member suggest payday loans? And that is where perceptions should come in to the equation.

I don't disagree with what you say. The difference is that you have come at it from a logical more clinical perspective as opposed to an emotional perspective.

We are humans, not financial advice dispensing robots. If people want nothing but unemotional, clinical, financial advice, then it's available from a financial advisor. For a fee.
