Monument pbp

My partner received a letter this morning from barclaycard saying we are writing to you about potential issues that we have identified with some payment break plans as an additional feature of your monument credit card. Our records show that you enrolled in payment break, we want to invite you to complain if you think you could be affected.
We remember he did have a credit card but it would of been more than 10 years ago. We can't remember any other details about how he was sold the payment break plan.
Is it worth filling in the and just saying that we don't remember anything about this credit card. I have googled this and alot of people seem to have just had a cheque out of the blue with no other correspondence from barclaycard.

There's no point making things up, just be honest and say what you remember about the time and see what happens

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

We don't remember anything about this card so that's what we will have to put on the form. Wasn't aware that he had been paying for a payment break plan and had never even heard of payment break plans till today.
  • fill the form in and see what happens - be honest. They wouldnt have written to you if there was nothing on the account I dont think?

I am currently in the middle of a complaint for my late father and whilst it takes a LONG time to get through on the phone, when you do get through, the customer service team are really helpful.

    Good Luck :)

We will try phoning them tomorrow. It just seems unfair that if he is owed money and can't remember anything about the credit card then they won't pay him

It's not unfair because no-one is owed money, you are complaining it was miss-sold so you need to show why you feel this was the case

We don't know if it was mis-sold, my partner doesn't remember anything about this card.I read the other that people are getting cheques sent to them out the blue, so I don't understand why they are asking us to complain and not some other people.

My wife has just received the same letter from Barclaycard for a payment break. There is a questionnaire with it with a number of questions that the bank should know the answers to themselves.
The wife can remember very little about this, except she did have the card and must be over 12yrs ago before we married. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if she was 'talked or pressured' into taking the payment break.
If we contact Barclays are we entitled to see what there records show about this, it may also jog her memory?

My partner has just spent an hour waiting to talk to somebody on the phone but has given up, will try again tomorrow. We also want to see what records they have.

The PPI scandal is about miss-selling, you need to complain about why you feel the product was miss-sold in order for them to consider whether you should get a refund. If you have no idea why it was miss-sold then are you really sure it was? Remember simply having PPI is not the issue, it may even have been something your partner wanted, its only if it was miss-sold that there is an issue.

What records do you believe Barclays should have? Why do you believe they should store them from an account from 12+ years ago when that would be a breach of the data protection act (assuming it was closed more than 6 years ago)?

You can send Barclays a SAR for a copy of all the data they still hold but it may be nothing
