Parking Eye

I received a parking eye letter from my workplace on my new vehicle.
I pay for parking monthly, and have done for the past two years. I added my new vehicles number plate to the parking system at the start of October incase there was a period of time before it was activated, and first drove my new car on the day of receiving it on Wednesday 31st October. The car was driven onsite again every weekday since, but I have a parking charge notice for 2nd November. The car is parked in a staff only car park where I need my swipe card, and those only who pay parking can enter. I have appealed this, as it’s no fault of my own. Can I still contact my boss to sort it out now I’ve appealed it?

    Of course you can.

Tell him about the a Bill presently going through Parliament to put these scammers out of business.

This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of alleged contracts for alleged parking offences, aided and abetted by a handful of low-rent solicitors. Is has been suggested by an MP that some may have connections to organised crime.

Parking Eye, CPM, Smart, and others have already been named and shamed in the House of Commons as have Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (these two law firms take hundreds of these cases to court each week), hospital car parks and residential complex tickets have been especially mentioned. They lose most of them, and have been reported to the regulatory authority by an M.P. for unprofessional conduct

The problem has become so widespread that MPs have agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers.

Sir Greg Knight's Private Members Bill to curb the excesses, and perhaps close down, some of these companies passed its Third Reading in late November, and, with a fair wind, will should become Law next year.

All three readings are available to watch on the internet, (some 6-7 hours), and published in Hansard. MPs have an extremely low opinion of the industry. Many are complaining that they are becoming overwhelmed by complaints from members of the public. Add to their burden, complain in the most robust terms about the scammers.

Complaining to your boss and the people that employer the parking scammers is always the first thing to do.

The NEWBIES sticky thread tells you everything you need to know about this.

You should also complain to your MP as advised above about this unregulated scam.

  • Just to add, I’ve recieved another one for 16th November. Again, parked in a staff car park. Two weeks exactly from the last one. I think something is wrong with their system

Complain to the Information Commissioner if PE do not cancel these. The ICO has said it WILL investigate concerns about wrongly-issued ANPR PCNs (not appeals, actual cases where there should NEVER have been a PCN).

  • Update- I’ve called the parking officers at my workplace, and they have the wrong registration (one number wrong). Apparently I’ve got to pay £20 per charge notice as it was apparently my error, and it’s in their contract with parking eye. Also, I have now got 4 through the post.
  • Another update- had a call back from the parking officer and a total of 5 charge notices have been issued. I’ve been given the chance to pay £60 for all 5 instead of £100 for all 5. Do I pay or not?

    Absolutely not..!

Press your Parking "Officer" to get this sorted properly. An offer like this is just a bribe to have you go away without making their lives more difficult or have to explain themselves to someone higher-up the tree.
  • Did your employer make it clear you would have to pay £60 if you gave them the wrong registration number?

We've just got a PPC in one of our staff car parks, but nobody has had to sign a contract, or even read one.

How do you know it was your error in the first place? How about it was their error? Ask the Parking officers to show you proof it was you.

  • Apparently it was my error, because I was the one who inputted it into the system. 69 plates aren’t out yet, and mine is a 68 plate, so surely they would have recognised that it was wrong? I’m going to ask for the car parking policy and see what it says.
