Paying too much - need help!

Options
Hi
We currently have two different packages for the TV in our house and we are paying far too much. I would be grateful for any help in getting what we need.

TV, Broadband and calls
In our kitchen family room We currently have a BT Plus broadband and calls package which we pay £47 for. Our broadband is good
We also have BT TV and recordable You Tube box which we pay £9.50
Sky Sports Main event through BT £30

Second Room TV

In our living room we have Virgin Media Full House. Our contract is so old we don’t have a recordable box - just one we can watch through - and am embarrassed to say we pay £51.06 for. We used to use the kids tv programmes but my kids are growing up and one of them watches Nickelodeon and that’s about it. I like Sky One and the TLC channels.

I am conscious that this is all very expensive. I have thought of two options. I could get a second BT TV box but we would lose the sports. My family don’t watch the sport all the time just big rugby or football matches. Our other alternative is to contact Virgin, downgrade to Mix and ask for a TIVo.

Does anyone have sobetter suggestions or guidance as to what is best for our family. We all have BT mobiles and discount through that so would prefer to stay with them and since upgrading to the BT Plus broadband it’s been good.

Thanks for your help.

What dfo you actually need out of that and what is it.

Have a look see if BT TV or NOW TV would give the channels you want .

£51 is a good price for full house .

Big Rugby on Sky mostly .

Essentially you have VM broadband but also pay for BT Broadband and line rental and calls as well as TV .

I'd get rid of the Virgin package entirely and the BT TV. Renegotiate the BT BB. They'll try and use the BT sims against you but just turn that around and tell them you're happy to swap to a different supplier.

Get a NowTV box for the living room and one of the cheap 12 month passes for Sky Atlantic & Sky One. You can buy day or week passes for any big sporting events on Sky for the NowTV box.

OP, I'd agree with ditching VM. The Now TV is a good option for your living room. Even if you just want Sky 1, the Entertainment pass is only £7.99 a month on Now TV, and it's a monthly pass so you cancel anytime. If you buy a month pass, then go to cancel it the next day, you still get the remainder of the month and they usually offer you a deal - the one I currently have is entertainment for £3.49 a month for 4 months. So I basically get all the sky channels for that amount (except Sports and Movies). Check out the channels available on their website.
The only down side with Now TV is that it isn't HD, but if you have a decent BB speed, you probably won't notice - I haven't. Plus you can watch programmes when you want rather than when broadcast, so you don't even have to record them. You will often find Now TV boxes on offer with free passes as well.
Not sure I'd use NOW TV for sports because of the HD issue, but movies are fine too - I pay £7.99 a month at the moment for movies, normal price is £9.99. They did have some black Friday deals which were cheaper but I was already on a deal so missed out.
  • Thank you all for these suggestions. They are very helpful and will look at changing at the weekend. :T
