Hello!
My parents (both 85) fancy switching to a smart TV for iPlayer, Netflix, etc. Dad can (just about) use email and web browsing on a computer, but struggles with smartphones and anything too techie.
Is there a brand of TV that anyone would recommend for being clear, easy to use?
Thanks!

Basically all the same no special for so called OLD people .
Smart side is
Needs a connection to the internet via ethernet to router or wifi if wife enabled TV .
Usually a button gives a screen with Iplayer Netlix etx apps .
Look at Richer Sounds for specs.0 -
I don't know if other smart tv's can do this but I have a smart LG model and you can set up the remote to have fast access to up to 9 smart services. I just need to long press on the number keys to use a smart service rather than go through the menus. The LG remote also has keys for Netflix and Amazon but I think other models have this as well.0

OP, if they have a decent TV anyway, it might be worth looking at a smart PVR that plugs into the TV. I have a Youview box which has apps in - HUMAX also have a good repitation. Would be cheaper than replacing the TV. Works the same way, but a PVR allows them to record TV as well -fairly easy to set up series record etc. No more difficult than a smart TV.
I do have a smart LG TV - to use apps, I just press the blue button and all the apps appear. Most need a log in, but when you've logged in once, no need to log in again. Some smart TV's don't support their apps for long, but the ones on my LG still work and I've had it about 5 years.0 -
Look for something with Freeview Play, seamlessly integrates the catch-up TV to the program guide.
I find the LG interface/OS way to "flashy" for older people with magic remote etc. just confusing the hell out of them.
Philips isn't bad in terms that it has dedicated buttons for TV/SmartTV/Netflix
Best to take them to a brick and mortar store that have demo units to play around and see which one they find the easiest.0 -

Something like an Amazon Fire TV stick, means you don't need a smart tv.
After giving up Sky then losing two out of four smart accesses, I bought such and haven't even needed to use a recorder, as everything is on demand.0 -
An emphatic no to Amazon Fire TV Stick: I had an old Amazon Fire TV Box and I "upgraded" to a Fire TV Stick and OMG it's so slow. The slowest is when it's starting up. I thought about upgrading to the new Fire TV Stick 4K but I saved money by sticking with the old box. Probably the only difference is the hardware because the software upgrades to the latest version. Therefore I recommend buying a used Fire TV box which do appear to be sold rather cheaply.0
