The other thing to consider is that even if the master socket is in the cupboard in the hallway, there may be an extension phone socket in the lounge which you can plug your router into. It is not recommended to use an extension socket for this but in my experience it doesn't make any difference to connection reliability or speed. It's worth considering.0

Is it the master socket which has the test socket underneath the faceplate ?0 -
I had the same problem with BT TV. I phoned them and they sent me a pair of these for £20:

I've heard that they will send them for free if you are re-contracting. Also they are often on eBay cheaply.0
