Pay As You Go - EE query

I have good reception for EE in my area so in the past have always gone for a PAYG SIM from EE.
However I now see that their 'PAYG' SIMS also entail a monthly contract where I have to pay a fixed sum, is that right?
Do they not operate a service that, as used to be the case, is simply PAYG with no bells and whistles?

No.
They offer PAYG but are dear, Asda who are a EE MNVO are the cheapest for an EE signal.
EE. Basic pay as you go Sim. Just top up and use your credit for minutes and calls
35p calls
15p texts
Asda:
8p calls
4p texts
5p per MB
Virgin another EE MNVO are even dearer than EE for PAYG.0 -
With EE PAYG you cannot get data without buying a monthly pack but other than that calls and texts are PAYG with no monthly top up.0

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it's the data that's throwing me, I'll look into that Asda offer as I only really need to make occasional calls and rarely text.0

I have just left Asda (having finally succumbed to a contract) and found them to be really good. Call centre staff are really helpful and no issues getting PAC.. I was on Orange /EE for 15 years before that and Asda worked just as well, only much cheaper.0

with EE PAYG to stop money coming off your credit weekly, you need to text
STOP PACK
to 150
If the phone isn't just an emergency phone, consider a pay monthly SIM with plusnet, virgin (on EE). These start at £5/month and give you an allowance of mins/txt/data to use over a month.0
