Cheapest option for a seller to get their item back?

Bought an item recently which is not as advertised. It looked right but obviously clone hardware inside that is a lower spec.
Hard for the seller to know this. I think they got their fingers burnt slightly. Still of use to some, but just not for my application.
They mentioned crossing out my address and sticking it back in the post with the return label. Would this have been free for them?
Thinking i wont be able to get any tracking info on that option, and the packaging has been binned already.
Around the size of a pack of playing cards and around 100grams.
Is using the returns address naughty or acceptable? Any tips on the cheapest option now thats not viable?
Thanks

If the item is not as described it's up to the seller to provide a return label and pay for the postage. I wouldn't send it untracked, why should you place yourself at risk of it going missing?0

Just trying to be nice, but did wonder when they said cross my details off the package and return it.
Best to open a case you think? Its £15 worth so i would like that back and not lose it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Putting return to sender is unlikely to work if package is opened, that loophole was closed some while ago, you even have to pay to forward on items.
If you want to return it at your own cost then just use standard parcels and keep POP so you can claim from RM if it goes astray. If you want seller to pay return open a case on ebay-it does not harm them if they deal with it and an Ebay label is often not unreasonable cost wise for the seller.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This.
If you haven’t ‘accepted’ the PayPal offer, do this before you return the item.
Also, don’t apply for the PayPal refund until the tracking shows it’s been delivered.0 -

You only get a limited number of these (12?) a year. The item isn't as described, the seller should be paying.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -

No response from the seller since their last email which told me to write not accepted return to sender on the package and drop it back in the post.
Today there has been a rake of negatives with various eletrical items not working, or from recent sales saying their item stopped working after days/weeks.
I think they made the fatal mistake of spotting chinese seller prices and did not budget in for losses from fake/non working items.
Probably a fake FTDI chipset inside this unit.
Otherwise identical externally.
When my genuine replacement arrives im going to compare the two before i decide. Small chance its still me. Otherwise its a NAD case.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Sellers just being an idiot now. Says i cant send it back in someone elses packaging because the address wont be right?
Have they not heard of address labels?
Opened a case now, so they can pay for the return.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
