npower

Hello, this is my first post on here

so i moved into a new property in May 2014, the previous owner had pre payment meter for gas and electric , i contacted npower o change this for a monthly payment mete. This was done in July 2014.

long story short they couldn't bill me accurately for over 2 years due to an error of readings by the engineer that fitted the meters in the first place.

i took this to the energy ombusman, eventually it was resolved and i started to pay back what i owed plus my current usage.

on 24th July 2017 i had paid all payments to npower and was free to leave so i went to eon and i have been with them ever since not hearing a peep from npower until October 2018.

so i received a letter from npower on the 5th October advising me that they had been looking into my account and have found that my recent bills where incorrect and they have completed a full assessment of my account, there was no mention of payment or any request for money. I contacted them straight away and was informed by the ad visor they would have to raise a complaint on the account as he couldn't help me. i had a complaint reference number and was told it would take 28 days

on the 18/10/2018 i received a cheque for £42 and i final demand for £24.77 with the same account number on! I contacted npower again asking them to please leave me alone this has caused me so much stress and i wanted nothing more to do with them. the ad visor on the phone assured me the matter was resolved and i wound hear no more.

To my horror on this tuesday npower have taken £1282 from my bank account marked as first payment! I contacted the bank who cancelled and reversed this transaction, they told me that npower had set up a new DD on 4/10/2018 without my permission

seriously i am horrified they can even do this, how is this legal to hold someones bank details then take money from them when they are no longer a customer!

n power say they dont know why this has happened and they will contact me in a few days with some answers!

so sorry for the long post

can anyone give me advice as to what i can do next

Nothing surprises me with these lot. Another DD horror story. Hope you eventually get shut. I'd advise anyone who finally leaves Npower to close that bank account and open another it's the only way to have peace of mind.

honestly I thought I was shut of them for good, after all the trouble i had 18 months ago.
I just can not believe a company can keep your bank details on file for over 18 months then just take that amount 1. without permission 2. when you are no longer a customer and 3. when you do not owe it in the first place!
  • thank you for offering to help me but I have a complaints handler now and I am awaiting an explanation as to why this has happened.

as soon as the complaint is 28 days old i will be contacting the energy ombudsman once more.

if you feel you could assist further by all means i will send you my account number
  • Found out about companies being able to restart DD's when a broadband company did it to my Dad a couple of years ago. The banks even side with them rather than you as well. Opened my eyes and it's why I'll never go DD with any untrustworthy companies of which Npower are undoubtedly the worst. In fact worst by a mile it's not even close.
