Why are women so bad at queuing?

  • I have to say, I am amazed by the number of times I'm at a supermarket checkout and the person in front seems to be astonished that payment is required at the end.

They've stood in a queue waiting their turn but only when they've packed away all of their shopping into bags do they suddenly realise they need to find their means of payment.

They then fumble about, finding a purse (or wallet) fiddling about with cards, then looking to see if they have vouchers. The checkout operator will usually ask for their loyalty card which will then cause another round of fumbling and presenting of various cards, usually including kidney donor ones, before the appropriate one is presented.

It's usually then that the payment card is declined so a series of different cards are then offered but of course, they don't know the PIN. They then try various numbers in the hope that one of them works.

Do you live near me OP - I've witnessed exactly the same. I'm easily spotted - the one with the forced grin trying to buy one item, but stuck behind the lady buying half the shop whose purse contains the 3rd world debt in coppers that she wants to get rid of.
And it's not sexist - it is always women - I guess their other halves must be at home cleaning, washing and getting dinner ready ;)

Well, you certainly don't live near me.
If I have a number of items and the person behind me has just a couple, I'll let them go before me.
And I've had shoppers allow me to go in front of them because I have just a couple of items and they have a full trolley.
Maybe work on the 'forced grin'...

The only reason I ever had loads of change in my bag is when I had a partner who only used notes and would bring all the loose change home every day.Pure laziness.
Perhaps you men should get man bags;)

Strangely enough, I saw a young- ish man I know today ( 30 ish)who works in a local cafe. I suddenly thought , why do I never see Simon in town carrying bags of shopping.
Oh yes, he lives with his mum, and she does it all
  • I think this thread is awful. Any other forum website would have it locked. Truly awful.

Lol, no the other halves are down the pub having a swift one, they get some quiet time.
  • I think the OP needs to get out less.

  • I serve people like this and it too winds me up.

My worst ones are the people who have waited in the queue for at least a few minutes and don't have their order code ready by the time they get to me.

They will hold the entire queue up and spend 5 minutes trying to find the email on their phone only for them to have realised they've deleted it. I then have to spend even more time with them to try and find out what they have just ordered and hope to god they actually know what the items are.

Also about 20% of our customers can't see the big sign that clearly states "queue here" and will stand at the complete opposite end so a queue ends up forming directly behind them and outside the door.

The OP seems to be (sorry but it is men) one of these people in a rush, my life is ruined I cannot get in and of a shop, traffic lights at breakneck speed. They really think they are more important than others. NO, YOU ARE NOT!

What about pensioners? You get in a queue behind them they like to have a chat with the person at the payment point. But then they are older and realize death will come for us all and there is no point in rushing towards it. :T

Airports are the worst. People (of both sexes) spend ages queueing for check in, and only start rummaging for their passport etc once they're at the front desk!!!!

Although I have to say, why do women (yes women) take so long to pull away after paying for fuel. Seriously get on with it!!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
