Comps which exclude compers

It is an official thing as there's a list on here of sites that don't want their comps or answers posted so I'm confused by his response to be honest.0

I posted on the comp thread after an "official" comment on thereMSE_Andrea wrote: »Hi everyone.
The person behind this competition has made it clear they don’t wish to have entries from MSE or other competition sites and any sent to them will not count as an entry.
Please be aware that while we do not remove competitions that are in the public domain you should be careful not to send your personal data in cases such as this.
So is this a change to the rules then?
Previously posts have been removed and the site added to the post for "Websites that don't want their competitions/answers posted on MSE"

She's put them on protected view. Probably not the way to treat hundreds of potential readers.

A small/struggling, up to 10-20 people, business could end up with unexpected admin costing them ££££ in either staff wages, or their lost opportunity.
You can see why small companies can moan that "we expected 20-50 entries and had the hat ready to put their names into" .... when, suddenly, they have an unexpected 10,000 entries... 9,995 of whom never noticed the brand name at all and were just "comping on turbo mode".
Companies do marketing to people they genuinely hope/believe will become interested in their products.... they don't do it for people who would never ever be a customer to get "freebies".
If it's a little company, it's probably just never ever experienced ANYTHING like the mad rush that occurs from an MSE link... and the systems/admin/staff costs that can potentially have to be solely diverted to "sorting all this mess out ... only another 4,655 more to process by hand today and I can go home... by midnight"
Is this woman "just a regular person who writes a bit on her sofa at home of an evening.... ", or "somebody fronting what's actually the massive machine of an international publisher who sell over 10million books/day"? She looks small....0 -

If they have the correct systems set up then 100 or 10,000 entries should make no difference to them unless it is judged rather than random - and you rather overestimate the "reach" of a post on this forum, for a small prize you are looking generally at entries from this site at most in the low hundreds.
However a "pay to enter site" can dump up to 20,000 entries or so in just a few hours from people who are not even aware of the site never mind visit it.0 -

There might be no "system" beyond writing the names out on a pad beside the PC, expecting just a few.... she's not "a full blown/proper business with an office and desks and staff" by the looks of it. "Just her".
Last year I entered a competition for what is a long-standing (100 years or more) family firm of butchers who sell award winning sausages.... and I won. It turned out I was the only entry!0 -

Regardless of the number of entries or it being a 1 person band to a 100+ employees there needs to be a system to select a random winner that is acceptable to the ASA if challenged.
There are ways a "one person band" upwards can run competitions where the winner is picked at random for them and it makes no difference to their "time" if there are 1 or 100,000 entries.0
