OMG I am in shock. I had a number of issues with them and went on for about 3 years. However the staff did their utmost to help me resolve the issues. I feel for them and hopefully they will be ok.
  • Having encouraged my 82 year old pensioner mum to switch suppliers to save money, low and behold, it comes back and bites you. ExtraEnergy offered the Warm Home Discount and along with a reasonable fixed tariff the main reason for moving to them in the first place. From what I can gather, she's over £100 in credit (albeit she was due another quarterly reading/bill due early next month) and her Warm Home discount was scheduled in the next month. Pretty much in limbo, the only saving grace is that her supply will continue until resolved. Main concern therefore is that apart from what she's already paid into the account, the potential loss of £140 discount credit is rather lot of money for someone on the minimum Pension Credit to absorb. I've read the ofgen guidelines and advised her to hang on for the time being. She's a bit worried about losing the WHD, does anybody any idea how this will be dealt with as part of her switch across to the new supplier ? Any advice would be welcome, at least to put her mind at rest....much appreciated. Alex

Not surprised one tiny bit. Awful company.

If this didn’t have an effect on people (and so many people didn’t have issues when they were in business) it’d be hilarious.

They said on the BBC that government legislation was to blame for the closure. No it wasn’t. It was because they were genuinely awful at running a business and could not generate an accurate bill for love nor money.
  • I’m one of the few who had no problems with them, bar some poor comms at the start.

Now I can’t access my account and I don’t know what my credit balance is, beyond it being over £100.

Ironic I got an email Sunday about tariff renewal at the end of Dec.

The Government Cap on the Default tariff plus rising wholesale and other prices does appear to be hitting many suppliers hard as it is restricting their ability to raise their prices. The 'problem' as I see it is that Ofgem does not have a crystal ball so it is looking backwards to a large extent. Only time will tell whether the unintended consequences of the Cap outweigh the perceived advantages.

I'm pretty sure that Eversmart will be next.

out of all the energy suppliers I have switched to and from over the past 5yrs, extraenergy were the worst for poor practices.
I switched to them from first utility back in mid 2016, switch went ok, but they kept messing around with the DD value every month, i stayed for 3 months, despite the early switch fee, i changed to SO Energy, much less aggravation, stayed with them until this past july, not surprised Extra Energy have gone to the wall

I am with Extra Energy (no problems there but then I never had to contact them) and I am wondering if the new supplier might be Eversmart Energy, simply because I have just had an advertisement email from them about their family club and paying 1 year in advance to get interest, and I cannot think how else they would have got my email and targeted me
