This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning lovelies :)

So dark here so no idea what the weather is doing. Been trying to go to bed a bit later this week with the logic I will sleep longer and not keep seeing 4am but its an epic fail so far will have to keep trying though.

Mum day was a mix the shopping bit was very painful and she threw her toys out of the cot as they had run out of bags to put her bananas in ....she would quite happily put everything she buys in plastic bags and has no guilt about plastic use. I tried the argument that they had their own packaging but she will not change. Another episode of bananagate. Anyway she got her 2 bottles of Baileys ...a present for the brother who never sees her ...lucky him I shoud try that tactic  Anyway we went for lunch and that was OK as we spent quite a bit of time reminiscing about Dad.

So today I have lots of prep to do for a course tomorrow. Food will be a freezer dive and the charity guys are picking up my weekend stash so its too late to change my mind now

Forgot to say a big thank you for the advice on the frying pan. Its nearly spotless now ...I am going to do it again today as there is still a bit of gunk round the sides so glad I asked or it would have ended up in the bin.

Holly messaged yesterday. She is very low as she starts the chemo ready for the op next week and her meds are now removed. She is still with her brother thank goodness and it sounds like she getting lots of support there. She has decided not to admit to the other hospital at the moment but Im guessing she will have to following the op to restart the meds.
She sends her love to everyone still thinking about her it means a lot to her.

Jackie...we didnt hear about the visit yesterday...I do hope they were allowed to leave safely:D

Have a great day all :A

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dark and cold here this morning.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, mash and veg - was lovely and a small portion left - that's now in the freezer. Remembered to get pork loins out of the freezer to defrost, we'll have those tonight with mash and veg.

Wasn't overly productive yesterday, but had nail appointment first thing, then called in at SM on the way home to purchase loaf and milk, put car away when I got home and stayed in, did do some washing and a few other jobs inside but didn't really get stuck in to the washing, drying, ironing or housework, need to do something more today otherwise time off has been wasted.

DS1 opened the packet of butter and started using it yesterday - I had bought that to make my xmas cake with, will go and get another first thing, then come home and get the cake made and in the oven. The fruit for the xmas puds can then be weighed out and soaked in rum until I make them.

I will do some housework too.

Went to fat club and stayed the same - just not really paying that much attention to it at the moment, I need to get my head in the right space and give it a good go before xmas, I'm only 3.5lb from target.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Thanks for the start Nelski, have you heard from Holly?
Sounds like you're having a great holiday MM.
Glad you got your return sorted Gers.

I'm feeling a bit better today, thanks for your good wishes. Not sure what it is, there are so many bugs going about at school it's impossible to miss them all! Had a very relaxing evening with a little doze but of course then I couldn't get off to sleep.

It's pouring down here and quite cold, at least the cold wind from yesterday has died down, it would have cut you in two!

Washing up to date for a change and the house doesn't look too bad. Someone gave me a rather large 'Frozen' castle and a car set for the grandchildren yesterday, they have been given a wash in the bath and are presently drying in there, hopefully I can get them put away tonight if I can find room!

Have a good day if you can, take care. XX

Blowing a gale here and pouring with rain it sounds really horrible out there :( a day for staying in I think but I have to go to work :(

I have a lamb casserole ready to go in the sc this morning hopefully there will be enough for two nights that will be warming when we get in tonight.

Thank you for the Birthday wishes for my mum she had a lovely day, and Specky yes there was cake :bdaycake: :j

Will need to do a wash tonight so I have enough work t-shirts for the week.

We have a client back this week who was suspended last week for violence so we have to be very wary around him, I think if he starts again he will be expelled, he is a lovely chap though and a cheeky sense of humour.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Happy Birthday Hester! :bdaycake:
  • Good Morning, Oldstylers :hello: - cold and damp feeling here at the moment; forecast is for 5C max this afternoon brrrr.

Nelski - thank you for starting the thread for today. Sorry to hear that you had a difficult time with your DM while shopping, but at least lunch was pleasant. Good Luck with your course prep for tomorrow. Thanks for the update on Holly - it must be very hard for her at the moment, but it's good that she's got the support of her brother and his family around her plus she knows that she's got you to talk to when she's up to it :j.
nmlc - well done at 'not gaining' at fat club :T - the last couple of pounds is always the hardest to shift. Enjoy your evening meal tonight - sounds .
camelot - hope you're feeling a bit improved today and brilliant to be given that Frozen Castle :T.
redruby - wishing you 'all's well' at work with your difficult client and hoping that it doesn't get as far as 'expelled' :(. Be careful in that wind/rain.

:bdaycake: for Hester - have a lovely day :D!

Love and ((((HUGS)))) for all who need them.

I've got a day of Nathan-sitting today, but it starts with a hospital appointment first - still having 'wound checks' done. Just a small bit left 'scabbed' at the moment but no pain at all with it :). Nathan will meet me in the town centre and we'll go for lunch somewhere of his choosing - probably Wethy's, or MaccyD's, where he feels 'comfortable'.

Speak again later, luv Ollie xx
  • Good morning everyone, thanks Nelski for starting us off, and for the update about Holly. It's good she's at her brother's while coping with everything.

    :bdaycake: Many happy returns Hester!

Redruby, I like the sound of your lamb casserole, mmm.

Glad you got your item returned ok, Gers. I have used the Glasgow branch of JL and have found the staff very helpful.

I found my sister in two of the school photos yesterday, with the aid of my magnifying glass, and will make copies to send to her. Yoga later on was a duty but I'm sure I'm getting some benefit from it. I wish I could feel more enthusiastic about it, however my friend needs a lift home and I'm happy to go on that basis.

Today the leeks are getting converted into soup and I'll see what else can get used up. A swim at some point would be great.

Have a good day, glad you're feeling a bit better Camelot. Hugs to Poppy, taff, snoozer, and all poorlies, and for carers too, and to TA and family. xxx

    Morning all.

On the run, slept for nearly 11 hours last night, I just could not keep my eyes open past 7.30p.m.

Lovely to see you back Elona!

It's chilly here so I've got extra clothing to put on when I get back home. The college is so hot all the time that it's just a Tshirt on top. I've left out a wool base layer, a jumper and a pair of woolly tights for later.:rotfl:

Happy Birthday Hester - hope you get a respite.

    Still thinking of TA especially.

    Happy Wednesday folks.

    Good morning everyone :hello:
Gosh it's chilly here this morning. Steve has just jumped in the shower to get ready to travel to his B-I-L's funeral. Jemima is coming to pick him up after dropping the kids to school so he wants to be all ready to go.

I don't know if he will be back in time for dinner but I will plate him up a meal anyway. We are having steak pie and mash so it is easy to reheat. Lee has college this afternoon so he will not be here to help cooking it but Phoebe isn't working today so I will ask her instead.

Happy Birthday Hester, hope you manage to celebrate in your customary way :D:o:D.
Ollie, I hope you have a great time Nathan sitting xx
Nelski, sorry that banana gazing was so painful yesterday, good that you managed to chat about your dad though xx
camelot, glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better xx

I have the district nurse coming today to check my legs and do some blood tests and blood pressure check. I have horrible arms to get blood out of so I hope she manages it. Good job I am not bothered by needles as they usually have to stab me a couple of times.

We have the grandchildren coming over after school so I have charged up their tablets ready. They are not staying for tea though today so they will be disappointed.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning everyone,

    Happy hump day :)

Yesterday was busy in work and productive afterwards. I phoned to organise a new phone as my contract was up plus my new work are paying for it. Unbeleivably and completely confusingly, the new models with all the bells and whistles are cheaper than the others. I kept asking "what's the catch?" or "I must be missing something". But no, they (vodafone) want customers on the latest and greatest handsets, so make it more affordable. Seems strange but I'll take it. It's not often us MSE guy's come out on top in situations like that. Also, as my mate is in the police, I get a 15% discount too!!

I also had to pay my road tax, which for the car I got earlier this year is only £20 a year. Went to pay to notice my card was missing from my wallet. Instantly phoned the bank to cancel and order a new one. It fell out my jacket pocket this morning as I got up for the gym (!!!!!!).

Tonight I've no plans which means I'll probably stay late in work for a bit. Might go a run tonight if I can be bothered.

Nelski - You always make me laugh in the morning haha!! I agree, I'd ignore more people if I got a bottle of Baileys for it haha!!
Olllie - Good luck at the Doc's. Sounds like it should be straightforward
Midgie - Doing exercise like yoga can sometimes be the last thing you feel like doing, but you'll feel better for it afterwards and in the long run.
    Hester - Happy birthday :)
  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread Nelski and hugs to all those in need. Thank you for the birthday wishes.

Nothing exciting here, it's cold and rainy, we are going to look after our twin dgc this afternoon.

If CHS isn't feeling well I'll go on my own.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
