  • If she's your friend you'll split it without question...

Norweigan have a POA form on their site so it appears with them your friend would need to sign to allow you to claim their money !!

(I actually think these say far more about the person who makes them up than anything else)

How about a MMD that actually gives us enough information to go on?

For starters, did you each pay for your own tickets? Did your friend offer to help fight for compensation? Did they even know you were doing it? What did you agree?

If you do split the money, a good friend would give you something back for your efforts, e.g. a drink, or a share of the money.

Fight ? Mostly it's fill out a form and patiently wait (my own recent experience )

  • If you've claimed on her behalf as well, you should give her half. If you didn't want to share you should have told her to make her own claim. If you were claiming for both of you at the same time, it wouldn't have been any more work than just claiming for yourself - you can't claim for someone else, then keep the money; strictly speaking, that's fraud. Tell her it was a lot of work, maybe she'll buy you a drink or do you a favour on another occasion.

they endured the delay..In a normal friendship, you'd give then their half and then they'd buy you a drink for sorting it out. Swings and roundabouts.

As above - it's not your money to keep, whatever the state of the friendship. If they're a true friend, they'll treat you in some way to say thanks as you had to battle to get the compensation for both of you.

How much extra work does it really take to claim for two people traveling together rather than one? I'm guessing that typing the other person's name is probably the extent of it

You have to give your friend half. If not, you are stopping them from being able to claim later, and effectively stealing from them. Just because your friend hasn't jumped on the claim bandwagon immediately like you are doing, doesn't mean you can deprive them of the right to claim in the next 7 years or however long they get.

I tried reclaiming on behalf of my friend and myself back in the early days (Thomas Cook prevaricated long enough so that I missed the window to put in a claim). It took lots of time and the cost of a few recorded delivery letters. If I had been successful, I would have given my friend half, but would probably have suggested she pay her fair share of the postage cost, and I would have hoped she'd have treated me out of the free money I'd got for her. But I wouldn't have dreamt of keeping it all for myself.
  • Agree an amount for the time you've put in making the claim, & then split the rest. If your friend objects, don't be so friendly in future.

You mean like my suggestion in #16?! :D
  • This is a non-dilemma as compensation is paid to the person and when I received money from BA for a flight delay I first had to send a letter signed by other people in my family to the effect that they were happy for me to claim ON THEIR BEHALF
Strangely enough when I claimed from BA for a delay that OH and I suffered I didn't have to send any such letter....and that was in March this year.
