Storing recipies from old magazines?

Hi.

I have a few hundred issues of magazines such as BBC Good Food, and in each magazine, there's probably a handful of recipes I refer too from time to time.

All these magazines are beginning to take up space. Does anyone have any ideas (besides making a big scrap book) of how I can save just the recipes I like?

I use Google drive - can I store the recipes there or would you recommend an alternative storage app/solution? If so how and what format? Do I need to buy a scanner? Will taking photos work effectively?

Unsure of how to start, so any advice welcome.

I photograph all the items from magazines I want to keep then store them both to cloud storage but also to flashdrives as a back up.
Perhaps something for those long dark and cold winter evenings

    Ditto.
Also check that the BBC recipes aren't on their website

I'd be asking myself how many of them can't be found just by googling.
  • Most of them aren't online - already tried that approach

Aye, google the recipes and throw them into a document on google drive. You can photo or type up anything you can't find.

That, or your aforementioned scrap book - which isn't a terrible idea.
  • Thanks, but I don't want a scrap book, it will just grow and grow.

Should I buy a scanner, or will photos suffice?

Most modern phone cameras are of sufficient resolution; just try a few snaps and see how it looks.
  • The solution for me seems to be the OrganizEat app - does the job

There are also scanner apps for a phone ... not sure if the quality is higher, or the file size is smaller, but worth a try. I have tried CamScanner in the past. You can set it to save straight to pdf.

My wife just photographs the recipes with her phone or ipad then chucks the magazine.

    Perfectly adequate.
