I've done over 100 reviews and today got a e-mail as apparently i wasn't being "descriptive" and "informative" enough. The majority of them which i did were descriptive, i e-mailed the sender this and they did say i did some good reviews, just some weren't "enough".

They can take your account balance from you so be careful.

    Got this email today
    Hi,
We hope that you are enjoying the Scoutroom.
We have noticed that some of your reviews are a little short and lacking constructive content e.g. "Nice but nothing more", "Zzzzzz", and "I've rated this 4 but the more I listen the less I would give it, sorry." .
We are encouraging Scouts to leave constructive reviews that enable Artists to learn more about their tracks. These could include comments about what you like or don't like about the vocals, lyrics, guitars, drums, intro etc and why
We hope that this will help you in future reviews and this in turn will improve your Scout rating (and hence the amount you get paid to review a track).
    Thanks for your support.
    Jess
I have made more constructive reviews (honest) but some of the songs are just, well, Zzzzzzz :D

I love music and it's a huge part of my life, so thanks to the original poster for recommending slicethepie.
I started doing reviews yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. It's a great way of being introduced to new artists.

I found that my reviews soon became quite repetative, bland and dull. I decided to visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/artistsalbums/, NME and clickmusic to read some of their album reviews to give me inspiration to help me write more constructive reviews. It's useful to see how the 'experts' write and now I feel I can apply their approach to my reviews.
I've now created a "crib sheet" with useful positive and negative terms/phrases (i.e. 'rolling beat', 'infectious' or 'catchy hook') . I have it open when doing the reviews and pick out relevant terms as the track progresses, and paste them into notepad. I then write a meaningful review out of the phrases I have harvested from my crib sheet, in notepad. Once complete I then paste it into slicethepie.
It does take a bit longer, but I feel it's important to be constructive and helpful to the artists, and I'm sure in the long run it will benefit my scouting profile. Unless the track is dire, I always listen to the end before finalising and submitting my review. One track in particular seemed great, I was really enjoying it...until the very end when it just abruptly ended! It's sudden ending ruined the track for me, so influenced my rating and my review.
:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j

Fab idea Kisto, i was thinking the same but couldn't find any useful review sites, so thanks for the link :).
  • I got a waning from this site as my ratings were too short and cause i said one was just noise , vocals terrible and they withdrew my funds!!!

I signed up yesterday and am loving this! Even if I wasnt being paid for it, I would still love it. hearing and rating new bands is brilliant! Though like others said, some are terrible!

My reviews are about 2 - 3 sentances long. Not had an email saying they're too short.....yet!

Thanks for letting us know about this!!

There is good advice on thier forum about reviewing and rating.
Also it helps if you read some of the reactions of singers who post on the forum to reviews they have received.
