Have you missed that this is a money saving website, it appears so.
So when there are money savings to be made, you are saying they cannot be suggested?
Whether the OP goes with them or goes for their original choice it is still their choice.
And you're STILL not getting it!!!
MSE is NOT "save money by buying something you dont want instead" its "make sure you get the best deal when you do buy". Thats EXACTLY what the O/P was doing!!!
Of course you can suggest alternatives, but please dont quote it as being the MSE Ethos to do so - which you specifically did.
THAT was my point. Sorry you cant grasp that.
Oh and theres not "savings to be made" by buying something different, thats called "buying something different"!!!!!!0 -
Hey, stop arguing!!!
I'm happy to listen to the options. Although Inner Zone did not directly address my question, they made me think about it. This is all part of making a decision about an item that I will have for a number of years, so it's important to review all the options before making my decision.
Thanks to everyone who responded. I'll mull it over before making a final decision.0 -

As an S8+ owner, i think you're pitching at exactly the right point. You're getting a great phone, without paying the premium of it being the latest model.
I ran a Note 4 before it for several years and loved it. The S8+ is a worthy successor without breaking the bank.0 -
I got a S7 edge this time last year.
Contract wise they were quite expensive but out of the blue Argos slashed £200 off the price of a sim free phone to around £370 to buy upfront.
It worked out cheaper for me to do this and swap to an £8 a month SIM only plan with Virgin than go down the contract upgrade route with Carphone Warehouse/Vodafone.
I would hang fire till Friday and see if any offers come up for a S8 type model.0
