If the default date was over 6 yrs ago then the default should no longer be on your file, paid or not0

OP is being very inconspicuous.
What is type of debt is it?
Who is the lender?
What is the date of default listed as on the account?
What do all 3 CRA’s says for the account?0 -
The default date was 2010 ...
...shall I write to CRAs to remove it because it’s over 6 years ...?
Yes
The entry should be removed 6 years after the default date or settlement date, whichever occurs first.

I have never come across an entry staying on a report beyond the 6-year point before.
Could it be that you believe it was defaulted in 2010 but that a default was never registered with the CRAs?0 -

I’m not sure what it means to register the default with the CRAs
Is that up to the debtor?Nothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future0 -
No, the creditor updates the CRAs.0

What I mean is that when you look at your entry on the credit file it should clearly show
Default x/y/2010
The fact that when asked 'What is the default date' you just said 'The default date was 2010' made it sound like you were not reading from your report.
If no default date is ever reported by the creditor, nor any settlement date, then the entry stays indefinitely.
If one of those dates is reported then the entry must be removed six years from that date0 -
OP clearly doesn't know what they are looking at and/or talking about.
I repeat again:
