Good broadband which doesn't rely on Openreach?

Hi all,

First post here. I've just moved house and I'm having trouble setting up broadband. Tl;dr the exchange box near my flat is full and Openreach aren't giving a timeframe where it might be fixed.

Any tips on good broadband providers which don't rely on Openreach? Would use Virgin but they don't serve my area (yet!).

Cheers

  • Aside from a few providers with very small geographic coverage (hyperoptic, gigaclear) your choices for a fixed line service are either VM or an ISP that uses Openreach backhaul. Other than that it's wireless services - 4G mobile data or satellite. Neither are ideal.

Even if your cabinet is full which prevents you ordering FTTC, you should be able to get ADSL now.

All exchanges are different - depends on which companies have a box at your exchange. Sometimes Talk Talk and others have there own equipment.

Other option is leased line broadband which will give you whatever speed you want. Likely to be very expensive though.
