Renting a car:- Green Motion?

I have just stopped using GM and was using them for the past 15 months. I have sang their praises here before as contrary to a lot of others, I had no issues - including renting from Edinburgh Airport for 2 weeks while my wife's car was in for garage works.

The key is to take a HIGH quality video of all over the car and ensure that anything you see is captured on both sign out sheets. Ensure that the video is on your device before setting off.

Capture the underside of the front and rear bumpers, all the alloys (around the rims) and slowly walk around and take final shots along the length of each side. Ensure that the video has the back ground of the rental location. To be fair, I do this with any rental - not just GM.

The only reason I no longer use them is that my office location has moved - previously I was renting from Luton branch after flying in from Edinburgh.

Be aware of their fuel policy and leave the car (reasonably) clean.

If there are any defects as your drive off, return straight away or, at the very least, call them.

Try and arrange collection in good daylight.

The above really goes for all car hire and would like to reiterate that I have never had issues with GM from 4 branches but I do realise that they do have a poor reputation. I suspect though, from some recent changes I have seen, they are keen to improve on that - ie, they now have started to log all damage to a car so when you sign a car out, existing damage should be on the sign out sheet - previously, each rental started on a clean sheet despite having old damage (This is Luton branch that have started doing this).
  • I had the misfortune to rent from this shower and was stung for £106 for a barely visible scuff on the nearside mirror housing. It was odd how the employee checking the car in went straight to it as if he knew it was there. I wonder how many other hirers have paid for this alleged damage.

If I'd had the good sense to read reviews of them and realised that Holiday Autos no longer promoted them, I would not have made the booking.

Maybe this is s subject that MSE should look into.
