Barclaycard/Monument Letter - Deceased Father

Hi,
I hope someone can help me.
I received a letter from Barclaycard saying my late father had a Momument credit card and that he had enrolled in PBP (Payment Break Plan) and that the product was something we were being invited to complain about.
My father was an alcoholic and quite a vulnerable person so i can imagine he had no clue what this even was.
I called the number and they asked for a letter showing who I was along with a copy of his death cert. My sister and I are his only family, and he has an ex wife so i severely hope she sint entitled to anything if there is a refund due. I sent the info off as requested. Apparerntly they need to send my sister and I an indemnity form? what does that mean?
This has dragged up a lot of pain but if ther eis anything due, my sister would be appreciative of it as she has just bought her first house.
We can find no statements or paperwork to say that he signed up to this, nor can we see the amount of premiums he paid.
I feel slightly lost because we cannot prove he didnt agree to this PBP - He is after all, dead.
This is such a painful process, its dragged up so many memories of our father. Do we carry on or do we quit because its time consuming and dragged out and theres no guarantee he is due anything? Even if he is, they may not send it to us because we cannot prove it was mis-sold.
If anyone has any advice on this I would be MOST grateful.
thank you so much in advance.

Sorry for your loss and to hear that your dad was in the circumstances he was.
I am not an expert on PPI so can't comment on this aspect, but in terms of your query on indemnity: this is so that if the financial institution paid you a refund, for example, and then found you weren't entitled to it, you agreed to pay it back. When my father died, the bank released the small balance in his account to my mother without the need for probate, but mum had to sign an indemnity form so that if it transpired he'd left all the money to the local cat's home, she'd have to repay the money.
Did your dad leave a will and has probate been sorted out? Or if he didn't leave a will, has anyone applied for letters of administration to deal with his estate? It wasn't clear from your post how long ago it was that he passed away. I assume because you say 'ex wife' that they divorced before he died.0 -
Thank you.
There was no will and he had no assets. Money in his accounts was given to my sister and I which we used to pay for his funeral.
He passed away in 2013 and they were divorced before his death.
I have dealt with everything since he died.
I was curious as to why they wouldve written to me if he wasnt due anything - its hashed up a lot of pain for my sister and I almost want to protect her from it all but I have a feeling this wont be an easy battle with the credit card company.0 -

They have an obligation to, in case you feel you have a complaint.
If you don't have a complaint, I would put it to o e side.0 -

There is no battle.
It is a complaint you make if you think he wouldn't have benefited from the insurance and you say why. Then they say yes, he did, or no , he didn't.
You're over thinking.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
So, a letter proving who I am and the death certificate for my father went back over a week ago via recorded delivery - however Royal Mail cant show the status of the letter even though it should have dleivered 5 days ago at least.
When I try to call them from the number on the letter I am on hold for FOREVER. I have tried 14 times to get through to them over the past week and I am just constantly on hold.
You'd think they have a bloody email account for things to go to wouldnt you?
Such a frustrating process.0 -

The problem may be that you sent it recorded delivery.
Post gets delivered in bulk to the right department, but when you send it recorded, it gets taken out of the normal process and the postman needs to have to find someone to sign for it. It could have ended up anywhere - including sitting in the glove compartment of a post van somewhere.0 -
Thank you.
I stayed on hold for about 45 minutes today - finally got through to someone and she was lovely.
Turns out they got the documentation the day after I sent it, they have written back to me today sending me an indemnity form and confirmation that a case worker has been assigned to the two accounts under our father's name.
She was really helpful and so lovely.
The complaint has been logged so it's just a waiting game now. I shall update if I hear anything else.0 -
I am so pleased to see that I am not the only person who can not get through by phone to the complaint team, I have been trying for nearly 2 weeks and have spent hours on the phone with no joy, this was sent about my late husband and the letter turned up a week after the 6 year anniversary of his death. I am really cross that this is so disorganised and even their customer support team can’t get in contact with them. I will just have to keep ringing until they answer. Julie.0

Or just write to them, in actual handwriting.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Yes, they arent great on the phone, they told me they sent a letter out last wednesday and still not received anything. Its incredibly frustrating that they must not have many people able to answer calls. Either that or they literally have thousands of people calling up.
Ive tried twice this week and am currentlyh on hold aagin - 20 mins and counting....... the woman I spoke with last week was SO nice but it took so long to get through that I nearly gave up.
I am keeping hope though as when I did get trhough they were brilliant.
Just keep trying0
