For clarity. museums and galleries are free, but the temporary exhibitions are usually charged for. I love the National Gallery, and it's easy to spend a whole day there just wandering the huge permanent collection which is completely free, but if you want to go into see "Courtauld Impressionists" or "Mantegna and Bellini" (the two current exhibitions, both of which are very good) then they cost to enter.

Oh my. My list of places to wander around just grew massively. :rotfl:
I mean, I can see why people are interested in these. Takes the mind off everyday grinding that is the work life. In my case longer hours and virtually no day-offs.

Thank you so much everyone. I am sure everyone accompanying me to these places would be impressed. We shall look into planning a day for National gallery, another for a stroll down the river from SouthBank to Tower Bridge to Westminster Bridge (Possibly hire couple of bicycles too!), British Museum and Science Museum sounds nice and sure would take the whole day on their own both of them and finally I never knew what this wallacecollection.org is. Will check it out! :)

    Thank you everyone! :j
  • Once you've done all the main museums, don't forget the hidden gems!, the Wellcome collection housed at Euston is my top place to take people. It's a medical museum, with lots of oddities and fascinating things to look at.

Bart's Pathology museum also holds events most Wednesdays, about a variety of topics that are dark/macabre, for around £10 a ticket. I realise both of these aren't necessarily 'fun' for everyone, but they might be someone's cup o'tea.

Finally - don't forget to check if you can be part of the audience for your favourite shows. Usually it's a random draw for tickets, and you have to get there on time as they give out too many, but I've been to see Mock The Week, HIGNFY, QI, Buzzcocks, and a Dave Gorman radio show - all for free!

Some evenings they open with the museum lit by candlelight which is magical.

Another nice thing to do is a free Jack the Ripper tour at Tower Hill, take in the view of the Tower Of London, maybe walk across Tower Bridge, then go for a drink or for dinner at at Katherine's Dock amongst the fancy yachts. While not free, for £11 each you can do a tour of London Bridge and walk up the Monument to the great fire of Londo, or do just one of them for less..
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

This is a plan. There are so many tours! https://strawberrytours.com/london/tours
Hope the weather is okay this weekend.
    .
I can't believe I have never heard of this before! :o Thank you.
I have always fancied a dinner at Katherine's Docks. Embarrassingly unaffordable for me, will be at least for another year or so. Might look around for a fast food place near by though. The yachts are beautiful indeed.

https://towerbridge.recreatex.be/Exhibitions/Overview Tower Bridge tours sounds wonderful. Owned and operated by the City, should be lovely. :)

    Thank you so much.
  • The Sky Garden is nice. It’s a free version of the Shard. You pre-book the date & number of people required. There is a cafe there plus an expensive restaurant. Views are amazing. Worth a look!

I was also going to recommend the Hunterian museum, which is just across Lincolns Inn from the Soane and is the Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons, but unfortunately it;s now closed until 2021 while the building is redeveloped - ome for the future though
