CCJ appeared out the blue... Is it fraud? Should I call the police?

Hi
Im on the voters role I pay all my bills I have no debts and I have a squeaky clean credit file. Mortgage, great bank account best deals, pay off my credit card in full. I have no debt except mortgage. Today I checked my noddle and it says I have a CCJ I think what no no way!!
I check further and there is a claim for circa £350 06/11/18 to an address I haven't lived at for almost 10 years. Im on the voters roll at my current address and its on my file I have obviously received no communication at all. Can anyone just make a claim to a previous address? What if I didn't notice the judgement? It was just sheer luck that I checked the file and its within one month? What is going on how can this be legal?
Sorry Im really worried. I could just pay it but I dont know what it is and it could just happen again. I'll call the court tomorrow but Im just stunned that this can legally happen.
Distraught I was thinking pay it then sue the company that made the claim for the fake CCJ plus expenses rather than having it set aside or maybe i should have it set aside but that costs £255 almost the amount of the judgement. Or by paying it do I admit that I owe the money.... Oh I could do without this what a nightmare

It's not going to be fraud. At best, it's an error, so don't go wasting your time suing anyone.
Find out what it is for and then dispute it or have it set aside.0 -
If the CCJ is already on your file then it has already been through the courts, and has likely been an issue for a while. Double check the details on your report for all three CRAs (not just Noddle) - there will likely be multiple missed payments and a default which should give you an idea of what the supposed debt might be for.
You'll need to report it to the police (action fraud) as fraud, and then apply to get the CCJ set aside. Im not personally familiar with the process, but I wouldn't pay the debt if you believe it is fraudlent, otherwise you might be seen to be admitting liability for it.
I'd see what others say, but getting some proper legal advice from people more qualified might be a good idea - there are plenty of debt charities who should be able to help. Good luck!0 -
Thanks I don't have any missed payments for anything all my debts are paid on time and settled at the end of the agreements. I've never defaulted on anything. I'll check with the court tomorrow it's just such a shock that this can happen. I'm lucky really in a strange way that I found it one week after it went onto my file at least I can pay it and have it removed but I don't know what it is so I'm worried that they could do it again. I'm babbling sorry!
It's worrying that a judgement can be made to an address you haven't lived at for 10 years even although your on the voters role and have never hidden from anyone.0 -
If you had credit at a previous address and didn’t inform them they you’d moved then they will issue any paperwork to the last known address - it’s not their job to go hunting you down.
Contact the court and ask what it’s for0 -
Thanks but again no credit at my previous address all paid if your talking I had squeaky clean for the last six years no debtors all paid when due. This bill I would have certainly paid if it was due and I knew about it. The rule is if I receive a bill and its owed it gets paid. As debtors need the money to paid their own bills.0

if a ccj has been issued then its for an (alleged) debt within the last 6 yrs
before you go mad trying to guess , just ask the court for the name of the company that filled the court papers , this would have been approx 6/10/2018 , so any claim would have been about things that happened from mid 2012 onwards , so nothing to do with your old house0 -
Parking fine?0

It is a glitch with the system whereby court paperwork can be sent to the last known address, this is currently been looked at by the ministry of justice.
In your case it’s either an old debt long forgotten about, where all correspondence has gone to the old address, a case of identity fraud, or it’s simply not your debt but has somehow been linked to you, or something you have not been aware of like a parking ticket or speeding fine.

Not always the case, many old statute barred debts get judgments obtained under just the circumstances the OP describes, as they are undefended and granted by default.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I suspected that , however the chances of the OP owning same car 4(?) yrs after moving house , and/or not informing DVLA of change of address for a VEHICLE , are slim0
