Car reversed into me and ran
Hi all,
Been reading here for similar advice but thought I would join to get some up to date advice.
I was dropping my partner to work, one car in front of me, we both come up to a road narrowing where a work lorry waits to pull into construction site. We both stop, car in front of me decides to reverse to give the lorry space. Reversed straight into me, I was stationary. Then they open the door, look back at my car from behind the wheel and decide to drive off. Partner got a photo of their car, so I have reg number. I have called the police giving details but I have no hope. I took name and phone numbers from two men at the construction site who said they saw the car make and colour and that they reversed into me.
Number plate is damaged and bumper is cracked, not sure what damage is under the bumper. My insurance company advised a claim would be recorded as an at fault one, with me paying my excess and likely looking NCB.
The offending car appears insured, taxed, mot'd. Should I pay the £4 and get the TP details from askMID and try to pursue a claim with them first of all?

Also, a bit late, but maybe you should consider getting a dash cam, they're a godsend in these situations.0 -
You will be able to get the details of the third party but your insurers should also be able to do that as well - have you got legal cover?0

Is this the same as Motor Legal Protection? If yes, I don't have this. maybe worth mentioning that I have comprehensive insurance. My excess is £700 which is why I would first consider trying TP insurance.
When I called my own insurance, I did not give my details, I just asked for general advice, should I report it to my own company before getting askMID details/calling TP insurer?Entirely up to you, I would.

I should really consider this, you are right. But yes, bit late in this case0 -
Ring up their insurer (you can get their details free on a mobile on the AskMID site as it's a legitimate use) and lodge a claim against them. Show the photo and be prepared to use the witnesses (they will probably get a letter asking them to confirm what happened) so maybe keep them sweet so they do respond to the insurer.
Keep pushing the police as the 6 points/fine for failing to stop is a nice present hopefully in time for ChristmasSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Thank you, I will try askMID from my mobile. I should add that this happened in Scotland, in case laws are different for the offence? There are no injuries ( feeling fine so far! but would add that I am 5mths preg), only damage to property. I don't know the witnesses, they are workers at the construction site, I only got their name and mobile numbers, should I have got their addresses as well? How do I keep them sweet? Should I call/text them?
I am very pessimistic this time, I am only thinking of the tons of things that can go wrong, including : witnesses not helping, driver not being the keeper and the keeper not giving details of the driver/saying I don't know, driver trying to claim I drove in the back of them.0 -

If you report the accident to the police they will chase it up, you may have to do a producer, but magically in a fortnight the culprits insurers will come through (well that happened with me).0 -

Hi, what is a producer please? Apparently police are coming over tomorrow night to get details from me and partner. I also managed to get some CCTV from a business nearby but the actual accident is blocked by a lorry, it does shows the concrete truck coming in, waiting, then after some time the TP driving away and then me driving away, not sure this is good for anything? Also chased down the driver of the concrete truck and he seems to be willing to help, he's seen everything very clearly as he was waiting to get through.
So at this time i still haven't done anything, should I wait for police or call the other party's insurance?0 -

The driver has to produce their driving documents, they are probably issued less so if at all nowadays with all the technology.0
