Meet and Greet madness

To cut a long story short, my car was crashed by an airport Meet and Greet parking company. It's a total loss and a settlement was agreed with their insurance company. My issue is that their insurance excess is £2000 which has been taken from my payment!

I've contacted the parking company about at least bridging that gap but there seems to be radio silence!

Has anyone got any experience of this kind of situation? Small claims court? Employ a solicitor?

Many thanks.

  • Stranah, did you sign up to an arrangement with the company which explained about the excess?
  • Morph, I looked again and there is no mention of excess in the event of an accident. The only time they mention excess is when the value caused to a vehicle is less than £1000. My settlement before excess is £21,000.

Who negotiated this settlement with the the third party insurer?
  • Surely the excess should be met by the company and should have been charged to them.

Unless you get it resolved possibly small claims court?

I did. Judging by Black book, CAP etc it's a fair price. I pushed for more, as I think you should always do, but they were adamant.

I would have thought so but since they didn't even give me a hire car for the last 7 weeks, I may have to go to small claims.

Can your insurance company advise you on this?
  • Tell YOUR insurance company to sort it out that is what they are there for.
You should be keeping out of it surely ??

Just spoken with my insurance (LV) about it. She was as surprised as I was. She will contact their insurance company now but I'm not filled with much hope for them giving up £2k easily!

But is the OPs insurance anything to do with this incident?

The driver was not driving under the OPs insurance, they had their own cover.

Like me borrowing your car and only being covered 3rd party, i crash it and your insurance say nothing to do with us. At the time it was driven/insured by me.

The excess should be their problem though, not yours. That is their excess.
