No actually the OP says they "need to know our rights" to quote their exact words.
That does smack rather of what they actually mean isn't "Can I use the law to make sure it is 2 months notice?" - but more of "How can I use the law to stay as long as possible?". That is rather a different thing to having 30/31 days extra tenancy.
They've never given any indication as to how this relative had this place to rent out or how close the relative is. Nothing saying "the relative isnt a close one". Nothing saying "the relative is a landlord/landlady with a lot of properties - of which this is just one". So one does rather infer it's probably a pretty close relative and said relative is letting a home they have lived in already themselves/but maybe didnt require because they went off to marry/live with A.N. Other and aren't living with that other person any more and so need their own home back again.
I may be wrong - but I'm sure if the landlord/lady is only a distant relative and/or they own other properties too and have never lived in this place that OP would soon tell us so.....0 -

All the op is asking is for the 2 months that the law says she is entitled to. Where is the problem with that?

My landlord (a family member) has just informed us that he wants to move back into the property.

Well, its his house and he wants to live in it. He's also a member of your family. You need to find somewhere else to live, as soon as you can.
He however, should be giving you more notice than that. Have a chat with him about it, if he can't be more reasonable speak to Citizens Advice.0 -
Need? No, the LL needs to evict correctly.
The family situation works both ways.
The landlord does need to give more time, as I said. But the tenant in this case does need to go.
Or the family could discuss it in a constructive fashion, that doesn't have to involve consulting laws.0 -
Maybe the LL can help the tenant find elsewhere? After all, he is related to her children and must feel he needs to help.Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
