211 in two weeks is over 5000 a year. High for a gas heated dwelling but not significantly so (see one of my earlier responses)

You need to start looking at your consumption - water heating, cooking, showers are the highest.

Suggest you also put your annual consumption into a comparison site to see if there are any better tariffs about. Your 12 month fix with Iresa which Octopus took on will have run out and you will be on a standard tariff.

  • I popped round next doors last night, and asked how much they pay each month, bearing that they to have a 4 bedroomed house and use both gas and electric and have 3 adults living there. The house is exactly the same as ours, and they spend £120 per month on both electric and gas with Eon.
Octopus want to increase mine to £125 per month for electric and £30 a month gas, an increase of £35 a month for the same house!

    Don't compare with anyone else.

Never compare with others - your lifestyle may be different and this seems to reflect in your consumption both electric and gas.

Get your account up to date and see what else is out there.

    What about your gas ?

  • My gas usage is fine, I haven't a issue with that, the readings are taken off an old fashioned meter, and the usage hasn't really gone up in years, infact we've just had a new combi boiler fitted in Feb, when our old boiler of 35 years finally gave up!

Lets play devils advocate just for a moment: say if the readings are/were correct, and Octopus reckon we are going to be using over 25,000 of electric per year, is there something I could buy that would fit between the appliance and the plug socket, to read how many Kw it uses in an hour? That way, I could track down the rogue piece of equipment that's using so much electric? I mean, if i had a "herb" collection in the attic, I would understand, but I would like to know what's using so much power!

    Seriously!

Take responsibility for your own actions!

You know that you have given your supplier incorrect readings - crap in equals crap out.

Plenty on a well known auction site!

  • There’s not a lot of point comparing with other people. We all have different usage patterns, appliances etc.

Based on your readings your usage is around 5,500 kwh per year not 25,000 kWh. That’s not unusually high. Everyone thinks they’re a low user - I did before I started taking readings but I use roughly the same as you in a smaller house despite having GCH 😀

By all means ask to reduce the DD but bear in mind your meter’s recorded usage is highly unlikely to be wrong.
