What a balls up with smart meters

Yep, you’ve been adding an extra digit on the end. Your meter was only installed last year so you can’t have used a total of 100,000 kWh since then.
Have you asked Octopus to try to connect to your smart meter? They should be able to since it’s a Secure meter (assuming there’s signal).0 -
Chippy chap - when you were with Iresa was the meter operating in Smart mode ? Have a look at your bills for Iresa and see what the readings were .Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Iresa had no means to connect to the smart meters they installed - so it would have been in dumb mode with them. I imagine that’s what the engineer meant by not calibrated.0

I'm sorry, but as a new user, it'll npot let me upload a picture- my last reading showed 106505 and that's the reading I gave, however, looking a little more closely at the picture, you can see a very tiny dot, just before the last digit ( I could'nt see that in the downstairs cupboard) ! and so what I should have submitted was 10650?

Yes, that’s correct - the readings shouldn’t include anything after after the decimal place. So your readings are 5 digits long rather than 6.0

You will need to send Octopus a photo.. Best of luck !Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

I've just done that, so they can see the tiny decimal point before the last digit.
So, yesterday's reading was 10650 (decimal point) 5
and the reading I took 20 mins ago was 10663(decimal point) 9 - so that means, I used 13 units instead of 129 units!
I just have to convince Octopus this reasoning, but it would have been nice for them to explain that to me, instead of pulling out my hair!

Going back in time since Iresa changed the meter what readings have been used- yours or estimated by Iresa/Octopus ? There might be a lot to untangle here.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Although you missed the decimal point and have been giving incorrect readings the Octopus website actually instructs you to provide the first seven digits, so you should be able to use this in your defence and get this resolved quickly.

A mixture of both mine and Iresa/Octopus. However,I've just noticed another abnormality in my account, that I've written to Octopus about, and to explain...
On the 1st Nov, I gave a meter reading of 10452 (I've missed the last digit!)
yet today's reading, only two weeks on, gives a reading of 10663- an increase of 211 units! does that seem usual?
