They ignored the advice on the last thread because they've likely got a mental health problem0 -

I literally want to commit suicide. I've destroyed my life
Also, if you want to chat to someone have a look here: https://www.samaritans.org/how-we-can-help-you/contact-us - It is a really good resource if you are feeling this way.
Trust me 100% it will get better, but you've got to take some positive steps to address it. Hate it when people say they want to commit suicide because I've seen it first hand; but it is not the way out of this mess! Trust me. It only causes more pain and grief that you could possibly imagineYou've got time and experience (uni qualification) on your side and with support can very easily turn it around.

You're in a bad place but you've not destroyed your life. You need to use this as a lightbulb moment and rebuild your life.
If you are feeling suicidal please contact the Samaritans to talk
https://www.samaritans.org/how-we-can-help-you/contact-us
and then find out where your nearest AA meeting is and get along there.

I've personal experience of alcoholism - it;s tough and you will always be an alcoholic, but you need to turn into one who doesn't drink anymore, and you will come out of it a stronger and better person.0 -
grrr - The doctor needs a kick up the backside prescribing meds knowing someone is drinking or hasn't given it up, (unless they are told no of course when asked). Sorry I don't get for a moment they hand out prescriptions without asking are you drinking or taking drugs. It was one thing that seriously put me off medication as I couldn't truthfully answer so it's been good to understand why.
Careers can always be re-built - it isn't over regardless of what any frighters might say - you have time. Just do as you done before in the meeting with work or better still think of it as getting better and overcoming in your own pace without the pressure of the current workplace. If somewhere isn't right for you there is no shame in my world.
I've seen people in the respected and regulated world playing scratch cards before now to know we can all be in the same boat at times. Everyone has their problems time to time.0 -
(oh and now my partner's google history has "the samaratins" coming up on it, so they are going to give me an earful when they see the search history tomorrow  - cheers for that!!)Signature removed for peace of mind0

The last couple of employment contracts I've seen are actually very progressive when it comes to alcoholism. They treat it as a disease and turning up for work drunk wouldn't be instant dismissal.
But they do all say that if you have alcohol issues the company will support you if you actually get help and put yourself under the care of someone professional who treats this kind of thing.
So if you are honest and are willing to actually take part in rehab etc (I know nothing of the details), then I think you still have a good chance of keeping your job.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Just a couple questions for the OP.
Did you drink on work premises?
If no. Where? And, was it your lunch break?
If it was. Are you paid lunch or not?
Has your employer offered you any support regarding your drinking (at any time in the past) and are they aware of your mental health issues, and have they offered any support for your mental health at any point?
I'm inclined to agree with what was posted in the post above, and may be able to prevent you losing your job, though it won't be easy at all.
Yes slightly more than a couple question I know. Also need to know how much you drank too. As can't see 1 pint along with persribed medication effecting you like it did.
Also you should ask for medication that doesn't react with alcohol. and to be honest, if the go aware you drink they should have prescribed you medication that didn't react to alcohol, as doing so is negligent on their part, in my opinion.0 -

I did drink on work premises, yes. It was during my lunch break. As I work night shifts I'm unable to leave the premises during lunch, they lock the doors. Lunch break is unpaid.
No, they have not offered any support. They're aware of my mental health issues though. I've actually came to work under the influence twice in the past. The first time was back in March after I went out for a meal and was sent home that time too but nothing came of it, I should have received a disciplinary back then but they ignored that. The second time I turned up to a disciplinary meeting drunk which was back in September and I received a final written warning for that but no support offered. I returned to work afterwards. Previous warnings I've received were for absences due to being hung over the majority of the time.
I drank more than a pint. I drank about 5 or 6 shots of vodka in the space of about 5 minutes, along with taking a beta blocker which caused me to be a lot more intoxicated than I had intended.
Occupational health have said that I don't have a health issue, even though they haven't actually seen or spoke to me...0
