I am going on holiday on Monday, All the money I actually earn goes into the holiday fund, which I also use for weekends away visiting family and special nights out at the theatre with my sister. I have some savings which I am using to renovate my flat and have my state and NHS pensions for day to day living.
It occurred to me today that I am planning to live here until I can no longer manage the stairs (first floor flat, no lift) or go feet first. If I am blessed with a long life the place will need decorating several times over the next 20-30 years, and my savings will have gone, and I will have stopped working long before this, So I have decided to put aside £50 a month to cover this contingency.
Has anyone else got any plans or advice for maintaining their property in the future?Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget0 -
Oh Candy, you are being led a merry dance.:o. Don't blame you for escaping for a while. I fancy that film, in fact there's a couple on my list.
Mrsmac. Well done on the M&S bargains. Which ballet did you see. I looked at our local What's On guide and we have quite a few things scheduled for the summer that look interesting,
i am really looking forward to some nice warm weather and getting out and about more.0 -
LL or anyone, do you know if there's any way I can stop the gas firm taking more money from my card, until the problem is resolved
I've posted the whole saga on another bit of the forum"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Candy.....not quite sure what you mean about "taking it from your card". I suppose speak to your bank or card provider and put a stop on it for the gas firm. It really is dreadful the way you are being messed about,
Ancientmum.......yes ongoing maintenance is something I have thought about too. As you say there's always something.....routine maintenance of course but also big things like white goods and boiler replacement, unforeseen repairs to the fabric of your home. They all take money. I guess it all depends on how long we live:rotfl: but your idea of putting something aside each month is sound.
For myself I think this house will be too big for me in later years and I will probably downsize one more time. I will be happy to consider a city centre apartment, especially when I no longer want to drive. I would miss my garden though so I would hope I can find one with a balcony.
I used to be a manager in a sheltered housing complex. It was very nice and I would consider renting or shared ownership for something similar in my final years if I were to become frail.
Today I've got my little odd job builder/handyman coming round to draw up a schedule for the next round of jobs.
Very windy here today. Didn't sleep well and I'm feeling tired and lethargic so just going to potter about, tidy up and a little light housework. Don't think I'll venture far today.
My champagne moments today will be a leisurely bath in a moment, giving myself a face mask, doing some yoga and meditation and then being domestic goddess in the kitchen.0 -
My Champagne moments yesterday was having a free ticket to see the play No Kids at Battersea Arts Centre, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The play is about two men who have been in a relationship for 13 years exploring the options available to them for starting a family. I loved the music, dances and the soundtrack. The acting was excellent from both actors. This play exceeded my expectations and I would give it 9/10
My other moment was my sister R arriving for a weekend visit. :j
We are all going to a family party tonight, so I am starting my fabbing routine in a minute.0 -

Contact your card provider and block all future payments to that company. Explain that you are in dispute with them and that you are doing so under section 75.

If it is a Debit card ask for a 'chargeback' and block any more payments.

I had a lie-in and am about to have a lovely bath with ylang ylang essential oil.:)
I am clearing out some of the furniture from my bedroom to donate to charity and i wanted to refresh the room now it is less cluttered.
I'm going to make an inspirational space on my bookshelf in my bedroom. I saw a girl on YouTube talking about one she has in her home. I have a whiteboard and I am going to put motivational quotes and nice pictures on there.
I also got a book I ordered from Amazon called A Year of Positive Thinking.
I am going to put on the bookshelf too so I can read one positive thing a day when I wake up.:A0
