  • My champagne moment was just to go for a walk in the fresh air and sunshine. It felt lovely to be out after a couple of days at home in bed.:A So nice to come home to a hot cup of coffee too.

I am just a lurker who reads threads like this but the bit about the uti has made me respond. I had a really bad uti which started on 18th November. I was a bit distracted by events on that day so didn't really pay it much attention and by the time I started on the D mannose it was raging out of control. I got through packets of the stuff before finally giving in and ringing the doctor. Four weeks and two courses of antibiotics later it was kind of gone with the upset tummy, lots of flatulence and nausea.

Anyway, I got the stomach issues under control quickly with probiotics but the irritated bladder lingered on, d mannose made it worse, thought I would never get better, test strips said I was clear of infection but not inflammation. So anyway, this is just a tip which may help you at sometime, even now if you have any leftover symptoms. I kept reading about this stuff called uva ursi which acts like an antibiotic and reduces inflammation in the bladder.

Out of desperation I ordered some of the drops, about £9 from Amazon, they came the next day. I took it twice, 15 drops in a little water and the symptoms went away completely and did not come back. Worked better than the d mannose and antibiotics (though d mannose is good if you catch the infection early enough and take a lot of it).

Anyway, that was my champagne moment on Christmas Eve, being free of symptoms, as I had 6 to cook for on Christmas Day and didn't know how I would cope but I was even able to have a G&T and prosecco!. Its wonderful stuff.

Wow, that is helpful information. My husband had bladder cancer and kept getting recurring UTIs afterwards. I wish we had read this at the time!

Hello Everyine. Beautiful sunny day here.

The back of my house faces south/west.....the garden will be fab in the summer.:D. (Hoping to grow lots of fruit and veg, salads, herbs etc). The orientation was one of the things that sold me to this house.

Anyway although I would love a conservatory eventually, for now I am sat by the patio doors In full sun, drinking my coffee. It's almost as good as a conservatory and a nice champagne moment.

I am currently on a reclining deck chair which I just fold up and stack when not in use but Once the extra furniture is gone and I've done some serious decluttering I can make this corner a more permanent winter sun trap. Perfect for sunny winter afternoons, curled up with a book. No need for the central heating due to the passive solar gain. Ooh get me being all sciency. :D

This morning I went for my acupuncture and then popped into Aldi to do some more "preparing for the Apocolypse shopping". :rotfl:

My thoughts are that whilst I don't believe for one moment, that come Brexit, Britain is going to starve I think there might be some supply issues for a while and that we might not have access to such a wide range of foodstuffs as we have become accustomed to. I can remember the 50s and 60s when food choices were a lot more limited than they are now and that food was often pretty dire. School dinners - yuk!!! And although my mum was a good cook she wasn't exactly adventurous, bless her.

So given that I do love a bit of luxury and have a taste for the exotic I am making sure that I have plenty of herbs, spices, condiments etc as well as plenty of non perishables - just in case.

Frugal Tip - I like to slosh alcohol into my casseroles and stews for that authentic French bistro taste. It makes even the cheapest meats taste more palatable. I think A slow cooked Beouff Bourginon is gorgeous. Instead of using red wine I buy a bottle of inexpensive port and use that. Because it's so rich you only need a bit and unlike wine it doesn't go off. You can keep an open bottle for ages. I also add a splash to gravies for red meat. It can even lift a humble shepherds pie......:rotfl:

This afternoon I'm going to sort out the fridge and freezer, do a proper inventory of food stocks and then make sure everything is ready for the removal men tomorrow.

I do enjoy a good potter and I can't wait to get into full decluttering mode.

Have a great day and lots of free/cheap champagne moments.

Sorry to hear that, panic attacks are very unpleasant. Hope you manage to get to the cinema, it might do you good to get out.

    Have a nice time.

The Favourite was really good.Funny in parts , n Olivia Coleman was brill as Queen Anne. The only downside was some of the background music that got a bit repetitive :(

    Good evening everyone,
A very MSE "champagne moment" today.
After a wet & stormy day yesterday it was clear & bright but cold. Discovered I can sit on the sofa near the stove and still see outside cue:- Fire on, cuppa, comfy sofa and watching a beautiful winter sunset. Bliss:D

My champagne moment on Monday was buying the single solid pine shaker bed frame and matching trundle for under the bed from Groupon for only £150 in the Clearance section of Groupon. It was reduced from ££599.98 so I saved myself £449.98. :T :D:j I did this purchase through Quidco and earned £27 in cashback which I will get paid at a later date. :D

On Tuesday my champagne moments were going to my local Odeon and watching the 2 films Bohemian Rhapsody which I would give 9.5/10 then I watched Welcome to Marwen 7/10, later in the evening I went to Karaoke. I had a really enjoyable day and night. :D :j

Great bargain with the bed, SUgarbaby. And you are certainly getting your moneys worth with your cinema ticket. :D

Not sure I'd describe it as a champagne moment, probably it will be more a feeling of satisfaction I think, but I'm looking forward to getting rid of some my surperflous furniture today. (More will go later as I do the renovations).

But once it's gone today I can then start the major declutter, before the real work begins.

I have thought about this a lot recently. I think I have been clinging to my possessions as if they were some kind of life raft......through 4 house moves in as many years, but they won't bring my husband back and I think they have been holding me back when really I need to move forward.

I couldn't do it before but I'm now ready. Really they are only "things" I will still have my memories.

So it's out with the old, to make room for the new. :D.
