Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget.

The really bad news is my cooker is definitely not up to much......just another example of the kind of tat Miss Haversham left behind. :rotfl: It means that I will probably have to replace it sooner rather than later so I'm thinking I may as well crack on with the kitchen refit next year instead of 2020 as planned. I'll think about it in the New Year.
I am thinking I might cancel next years Iceland trip or at least postpone it for another time. My cruise last week was an unexpected bonus holiday so I don't mind not bothering next year. I would rather concentrate on licking the house into shape first.
Right back to the sorting.
Have a great day.
Sympathies about the cooker. My champagne moment for lemonade money is cooker related, got some Oven Pride from the pound shop and my oven is now shiny bright and looking like new except the seal is a bit tatty but I found the part number and I've ordered a new one for £7.99 so for £8.99 it will look like new. Not the most exciting thing but I do like a nice clean oven.
I seem to have developed an allergy to my Aldi moisturiser. I looked like I'd been burnt this morning, so funny as I've never had a problem before with it or any moisturiser. I popped out and got some piriton tablets and they have worked a treat, I just look like I've got rosy cheeks now which is actually quite nice as I am naturally quite pale.
I'm going to use nothing on my skin for a few days and then see if anything else suits, bit sad if it means I need to change to something more expensive. Still there could be worse things to worry about.0 -
humptydumptybits - I use Boots own brand moisturiser - they do one for normal/dry skin and one for greasy skin.
This is a cheap one and they often have it on offer for 3 for £3 which makes it even more good value. I've been using it for years now and have found it really good.
You might find your skin is very tight are washing if you're used to using moisturiser but hopefully won't be too uncomfortable and won't last for long each day.

Are you cruising to Iceland? My friend and I are on the Arcadia to Norway and Iceland next July. All that clutter used to be money0 -

This is where I finish. I don't like arguments.
No, that is where you started when you made the initial comments. I merely responded. You brought the topic up and you have continued to expound your views on it. I simply put a different point of view.
I wasn't arguing with you I was stating facts re pensions and fiscal policy. If you want to believe as you do that is your prerogative, just as it is mine to point out that you are mistaken.
However, this thread was never the place for that avenue of discussion so I will leave it there.0 -

I'll have a look at that, thanks for the suggestion. I'm still a bit rosy. I think I'm going to start using blusher, this rosy look is quite flattering:rotfl:0 -

Ooh that sounds great.
Yes my booking is for a cruise. June 2019. I don't have to make a final decision just yet. I'll go through the figures and see how I'm fixed.
Anyway I had a good bedroom sort out. I can't believe just how much stuff I have.......:rotfl:
I have decided that after Christmas, apart from entertainment and things like haircuts etc, I will have a moratorium on all unnecessary spending for 6 months. No clothes buying and no using Amazon as my personal library. :rotfl:
Yesterday I bought some new knickers and some pjs so I now have a really well stocked wardrobe and, other than toothpaste and deodorant, I am also well supplied with toiletries, cleaning materials etc.
The car is due it's MOT in January, fingers crossed there's nothing nasty to worry about. I have no birthdays until May so hopefully I should be able to really rack up the savings and build up my war chest.
I do intend to get down to some serious decluttering next year so with a bit of luck I might even be able to make a bit of extra money selling my unwanted stuff.
I am going to take part in the Make £2019 in 2019 challenge.. I find if I set myself a definite goal I fare better than if I keep things too open ended. So hopefully it will help me stay on track.
I know feelings can sometimes run high with issues like pensions but really I can't see the point in endlessly going over and over the same old ground. I don't believe in fretting over situations over which we have no control. It just depletes our energy and wastes time which could be better spent in trying to improve our situation.
It's like constantly picking a scab and never allowing it to heal. (Sorry if that's too graphic rotfl:).
My modus operandi is to take control and change what I can change and to accept with good grace that which cannot be changed and over which I have no control.
It might sound naff and rather trite but I really do believe that there are very few clouds that don't have a silver lining. All we need to do is seek them out. I genuinely believe Looking back over past mistakes and wrong turnings we have taken in life is defeatist, futile and a complete waste of time.
Ok some of us have been shortchanged with pensions and yes some of us have had curved balls like death, divorce, redundancy and Ill health thrown at us, but we are here and we are still standing. Maybe bloody and bowed but not beaten yet.:rotfl:
With courage, fortitude, open hearts and minds, a bit of hard work and a dash of imagination we can circumnavigate most obstacles in our path.
And if I can't get over them then by golly I'll get round them......
Well done with the cooker Humpty. Alas my plumber has looked and the big bottom main oven is kaput. I don't want to simply replace like for like which would of course be the cheapest option because I want to resite it so I can have an eye level oven, rather than an under the counter one. Again forward planning to make my kitchen more user friendly as I get older.
The small top oven is ok and I also have a combi microwave oven. It seems pointless to replace the cooker now and then replace it again when I rejig the kitchen in the next year or so, so again I'll just adopt a wait and see policy. I'll manage. I once Lived 3 months in one room with just a kettle, toaster and camping gas ring. I survived. Lol.
I have had nice evening wrapping Christmas presents. I need to be up early tomorrow for my acupuncture for my knee. (It's giving me gyp at the moment. :rotfl:) so a nice early night beckons.

I agree with you about the silver lining bit, and I think you mean the last part as having regrets and 'if only's ' about the past, because I do look back ocassionally and think, yep, I definitely learned not to do THAT thing again.....so it has been helpful sometimesNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Of course. Sorry if I wasn’t very clear. I’ve made lots of seriously stupid mistakes in my time but like you I try to turn them into a Learning experience. That’s why I call myself Lesson Learned.:D.
I think one of the saddest phrases in the English Language is “if only”.
Instead I borrow one my husbands favourites... Je ne regrette rien. He would sing it often.....badly and out of tune. Lol.0 -

Goodnight All.
Hi..just a thought but when my eye level double oven died, I replaced it with one from ebay which is perfect. I also did the same when the DW died and got a Smeg secondhand because the previous owners wanted an integrated look.
May be worth having a look. There are some bargains around.0 -

Thanks, great tips there. I definitely need to shop wisely with appliances, materials etc. Need to shave costs wherever I can. In the last house I used Appliances Online.
Chilly here but looks bright and there's even a bit of weak winter sunshine.. I love bright cold crisp days it's the cold dark damp ones I dislike.
Right time to get cracking and start the day. Acupuncture first......0
