My Champagne moments last weekend were going to see a play and going to Karaoke.
On Saturday I went to see Ages Of The Moon at The Vaults Theatre in Waterloo. I bought my premium ticket online using a Travelzoo code, so the £37.50 ticket only cost me £15. I saved myself £22.50.As I was a premium ticket holder I got a free programme worth £5. :T
The cast only consists of 2 male actors Christopher Fairbank (Ames) and Joseph Marcell. (Byron) who were both excellent in their respective roles.
The play is a gruff, affecting and funny play by Sam Shepard. Byron and Ames are old friends, reunited by mutual desperation. Over bourbon on ice, they sit, reflect and bicker until fifty years of love, friendship and rivalry are put to the test at the barrel of a gun.
I was captivated by the 2 men as soon as the play began and I was kept fully engaged until the last word of the play. I would give this play 9/10
On Sunday evening I had a really enjoyable time at Karaoke. I sang 4 of my usual songs; Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You, The Wonder Of You, No Matter What and Make You Feel My Love.0 -

Thank you Wednesday - I have heard of The Escape Artist and actually listened to a podcast he was on the other day, which was very interesting! Thank you for the links, I will have a look at those. I think what I meant when I said I wished someone in the UK would get the movement going, was get it moving on the scale it is in the US. Although there are a couple of FI experts here (is The Mad Fientist UK based?), there don't seem to be as many followers (relatively speaking) as there are in the US. I could be completely wrong though!
I hope those of you who have downloaded/ordered/put the book on your wishlist enjoy it and that it helps you move towards FI or even 'just' a better quality of life!0 -
Omg girls!I got my Thomas Cook refund back today!Roll on Goa in two weeks.I'm so relieved :j
LL good news about your refunds"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Candy.....that's great news.:T:T. I bet you are so excited about Goa. We want to hear all about it.
Mrs S - Thanks for the link to the Escape Artist. I had heard about him but never got round to reading. I'm hooked. Lots of great ideas. As you say even if you are already retired there's still lots of ideas and principles that we can adopt.
I am also rereading the Kath Kelly "How I Lived a Year on Just a Pound a Day". Some great ideas in there too. Although I have to confess I won't be camping (I'm so not a camping kind of girl:rotfl:) and I won't be hitch hiking. But even though some of the things she does to save money are a little too extreme for me there's still loads of suggestions worth thinking about, especially the free and cheap entertainment ideas,
Going to crack on with the painting today. I have nearly finished the emulsion on the walls. Then a couple of days rest (my neck, arm and shoulders are killing me) and then the woodwork. That will be the easy bit - no ladders needed and no contortionist ability required.
I have decided that I won't be doing this again.....I'm just too decrepit.:rotfl: I'll have to pay a decorator to finish the rest. It's a bit disappointing but I have to be realistic, it's just too much for me.
I will just have to rejig the finances and make a few sacrifices to pay for it but I have to be sensible....there's no point in forcing myself and punishing my body like this. I am 68 after all. Ano Domini has finally caught up with me.
But then......Even Cher couldn't turn back time. :rotfl:
Browsing through Netflix I have found loads of exercise DVDs. Pilates, yoga, Tai Chi, various dancercise routines. Aiming to start excersing just as soon as the painting is done and I've rested a bit - hopefully by the weekend.0 -
I felt so chilled when I got home yesterday that I had to get the halogen heater out of retirement. That heater throws off so much heat. It's great.:)
I feel tired again today as it is my time of the month. I am going to take the advice of the doctor of the book I just read. He said if you feel tired then it is important to get some exercise to raise your energy levels and make sure you get a good night sleep at night.
I will go and feed the poor birds and walk around the park. At least it's nice and sunny and bright today.
I'm going to wear one of my new jumpers when I go out.:Amrs_slapshot wrote: »Thank you Wednesday - I have heard of The Escape Artist and actually listened to a podcast he was on the other day, which was very interesting! Maybe you should start one.;)
There is the Monevator blog too. I think he is the best known UK finance blogger.2025 GOALS

Champagne moment......finally finishing the diningroom........standing back and seeing a horrible job done well and the room looking great. Just the woodwork to do and that will be a doddle by comparison. I can zip through that easily enough.....I have already primed and prepped so it won't take long at all.
A couple of days rest first though. Time for a bit of TLC and pampering. Acupuncture tomorrow.
Doing well with the food budget this week, having a use up month, havent spent anything since last Friday and that was only a mini shop. Will need to buy some bits tomorrow, mainly eggs, dairy and fruit and veg. What I save from the household budget will go to the decorating fund to pay for a decorator, so hopefully I won't have to deplete my savings too much.
Have just ordered another couple of 1p books from Amazon. One on money saving and one on personal development.
Both subjects close to my heart - getting rich whilst becoming wise.
What's not to like. :rotfl:0 -
Evening everyone! Almost the weekend :j
LL - Although I had heard of the Escape Artist, I can't take credit for linking to him - that was down to the lovely Wednesday! Well done on your decorating, it sounds like you have done an amazing job. I have to agree with you it is a wise decision to pay someone else to do it - I think there's a balance to be struck between not paying someone for something you could do yourself, and paying someone for their expertise, to do something in less time than you could yourself. That may not be clear to everyone, sorry! (I'm tired and brain addled!) I never knew there were exercise videos on Netflix! Will look at that. I think I'm going to cancel my Les Mills subscription - I do love the workouts but I don't get enough use to justify the cost.
Wednesday - I am nowhere near good enough at budgeting to get the FI movement going here! There are plenty of you on this thread much better than me at that! Monevator is mentioned by David Sawyer in Reset too as as fab resource.
