    What is your daughter doing......

I had an uncle who joined the circus, much to his parents disgust. :rotfl: It used to visit our city once a year and he always came to our house.....he adored my mum. She would cook him a meal and bake him a fruit cake to take away with him.

Enjoyed my brunch with my new friend. DS2 and partner coming for lunch tomorrow. I am going to get busy in the kitchen. I enjoy cooking and being a domestic goddess. :D.
  • I moved around my living room last night and it looks much better and more spacious. I got some nice scented candles and they are burning away while the rain pours down outside!

I might treat myself to some fresh flowers next week. I might walk to Lidl as they are usually very reasonable.

I am going to mooch around the chazzers in a more affluent area to mine next week as well.:)
I think this counts as Champagne moment.

Decided to do 'Stay sober for October'. I did it.

Decided to NOT worry about possible weight gain as I have eaten more Custard Creams in the month than I have in the last 3 years. Who knew I liked them so much....

Weighed myself this morning and have lost SIX pounds !

Wow, well done on sticking to it and the weight loss too!!!:T

  • Thank you.
Meant a lot to me. Sadly even though I have ramped up Tiggy's exercise she has put on 0.4 of a kilo. No Custard Creams involved.

    I am baffled......

    Have lovely weekend.

My Champagne moment is my son allowing me to use his laptop right now, as mine is in need of repair :D
  • Good evening all - and welcome to the new posters/readers

I have had a really good week this week (apart from feeling like I want to hibernate...and a couple of dodgy tummy days...). I've had a couple of eBay bargains; a lovely cosy cardigan that is in fab condition, I can't wait to wear it :D plus today I've bought a pair of sandals for my California trip - time will tell if they are a bargain but they look good! I've also had a few sales of some of my unwanted stuff, although one item I had to withdraw when I discovered nail polish on it..

Decided on a whim today at 4.15 to go for a walk - bumped into one of my neighbours I haven't seen for ages, had a lovely chat and petted her dog, then met lots of other dog walkers out and about with friendly smiles. It does warm my

Anyway, called in at a local charity shop while I was out and found a bargain pair of brand new ankle boots for £8 - so I can return the pair I bought a couple of weeks ago for £20 (which I thought was a bargain anyway!), together with the bag I bought for £16 when I found a better one for £10! So all in all my £36 spend has reduced by half! I also bought a lovely fleecy hoodie last night when I went out with a friend, which was half price.

I'm really appreciating my new job more and more - my work-life balance has improved so much...I am home by 5 at the latest every day, and I worked from home on Friday (not sure that is such a good idea as I kept on working past my finish time!).

I had a work trip this week using my car, for which I will get around £60 expenses - only about a third of that is needed for the petrol it cost me, so that will be a nice Brucie Bonus! We get a mileage rate which covers your petrol and additional costs (business insurance, wear and tear etc). I had been thinking I would buy a takeaway for dinner that evening but (surprisingly for me) I restrained myself and made use of the freezer. I then did a stock take of the freezer and sorted out the contents so meat is in one drawer, veg in another, and all of my batch baked meals are in the bottom drawer. So satisfying! I think we could survive a zombie apocalypse on the contents of my freezer and pantry...!

Today I have had such a lovely day - understated, but really satisfying. Got up early to take my son to work as I didn't want him cycling in the awful rain, called in at Aldi to do the weekly shop- the shelves were groaning with fresh food, and I only spent £30 for a full shop! I have got so complacent lately, doing a Sainsbury or Tesco shop...this has made me determined to really cut back on my grocery budget. And Aldi is such good quality, even though the choice isn't as wide. Then I finished my housework, have done all the washing and ironing and cleared some paperwork. Just a really lovely, laid back day.

I would like to recommend a book to you all - I heard the author talking on a couple of podcasts I listen to, and decided to get his book. I was only about 100 pages in and I was raving about it to anyone who'd listen! I've bought copies for my two best friends as well! It's called Reset and it's by David Sawyer. The full title is 'Reset - how to restart your life and get FU money' and it is a very interesting read. I haven't quite finished it yet, but I have loved it so far - and it is the only book EVER that I have used a highlighter in to mark out really key things!! Anyway, it may not be relevant for everyone, but I certainly think there are things in there that we can all take something from.

Right - off to get on my cosy PJs and set myself up with a pink g & t for Strictly!!

Oh how strange, that is exactly the book I have lined up to read next week! I bought it a while back. I think someone on a blog told me about it.:)

    Good Morning Folks,

LL DD will be dancing and then doing front of house......ticket sales, refreshments etc......sounds hilarious :rotfl: Probably too far for us to go and watch :(

    Champagne moment for yesterday ........

Had to invite a crowd to eat Coq au Vin. The 'new to us' dining chairs were tested...... The new kitchen and dining area works really well for entertaining....... A jolly evening. Young friends have found out they are having a baby girl, so lots of baby talk.

Mrs S I have put David Sawyer's book on my Xmas list.

Last day of hols today. Hope to see you all soon :)

I hope you enjoy it! I finished it last night - am going to go back through the last couple of chapters to pull out the key points and make an action plan.

Let me know what you think of it...it gets a bit heavy around the financials, but that's one of the parts that I need to look at really carefully. I am scared of investing in one way, and in another I have a very large (to me) sum of money already invested in a personal pension, plus a 'FU' pot of around 6 months expenses should I need to escape from my job - so I don't know why I feel this fear of investing my surplus salary?!!!
