Thanks for that. Skogar. I've had a quick look, there's one or two I fancy.
Yeah, I think the budget looks ok. I have been much better organised with food shopping and cooking this month, batch cooking, freezing leftovers etc and it's made a big difference. Eating really well and healthily too. Next year should be even better when I get the garden up and running.
I do need to buy a few bits for my holiday......cant find my strapless bra :rotfl: and need things like sun tan lotion and a few just in case OTC meds but they won't break the bank.0 -

It's the same with salad, some salads sound really delicious but I don't enjoy eating it at all.
It's very frustrating.
Do you like casseroles or stew? If you do, Just make a really really thick soup and call it a casserole to fool yourselfMy mother used ot put rice or pasta in a soup to make it go further, there was usually enough veg to stand the spoon up in, you could add borlotti beans for protein [ they go really well in a stand up veg soup] with some parmesan on top...I'm just thinking about a chicken, chorizo, parika and rice soup, sounds like it could be fun....

There is one particular chicken casserole I make about twice a year, but I need to really fancy it first. I don't like any other meat or veg cooked in gravy/sauce. I'm not keen on rice or pasta either (except for mac 'n cheese).

I started getting my state pension a few months ago, I just got £100 for winter fuel payment in my account, we aren't actually any better off as it means DH gets £100 instead of £200 but it was still nice to see it sitting in my account.
I've got someone coming to look at the garden later, the guy who used to cut the grass has retired so I need someone new for next year and I need all the bushes cutting back now as he was due to do it last month but wasn't well so we were waiting for him and now he has decided he is retiring. I bet it is going to cost more but not much I can do about it, well I suppose I could cut the grass but I can't manage the bushes. I suppose I will have to see what it is going to cost and decide if I'm going to do the grass cutting myself.

I'd also recommend the National Theatre Live screenings, if there is a cinema near you that does them! Tickets are about £17/£18 at my cineworld. Whereas, if you consider the cost of going to see it live, from a less good seat... It's a great way to see world-class theatre on the cheap.
Don't get me wrong, live theatre is incredible, but factor in ticket prices, and travel, there's no change from £100.
I'm going to one tonight, and another next Thursday. A little run of good things on at the moment! Saying that, these are probably the first that have caught my eye in perhaps a year. Until now, it's all been ballets and operas, which aren't so much my thing.Because it's fun to have money!

I would never order soup in a restaurant or cafe as it always feels like a rip off. I am going to make leek and potato soup soon as I love that in winter. It reminds me of the soup my Gran used to make.:)
I had a rash on my legs which turned out to be contact dermatitis over the summer so I have a lot of half-used tubes of cream in my medicine box. I'm going to use my footspa each day and then use the creams on my feet and then put fluffy socks on afterwards.
I'm going to do it in a minute as I got quite chilled when I was out in the rain earlier. It warms you up fast. :A0 -
Yes I'm definitely going to look out for NT productions.
Well I'm afraid I feel absolutely dreadful. Only a head cold but even so I do feel rough. Woe is me. :rotfl:
Managed to drag myself round the builders merchants and then Sainsbury's but that's it, I'm done for. The sofa, a hot water bottle and a nice film beckon, see if I can sleep it off.
Electrician coming later but then an easy dinner and an early night with a hot toddy.0 -
Had some leeks to use up so make leek & potato soup this morning so just had that for lunch, and very nice it was too. There's enough left over for another lunch for DH and I so once it's cooled down properly I'll stick it in the freezer for another day.
Made meatballs this morning for dinner tomorrow night which we'll have with ratatouille which has used up veg from the fridge, and another batch has gone in the freezer for another meal, probably next month.
I do love getting ahead with meals, particularly when it uses up veg from the fridge which is getting beyond its' best!
