Last freebie I had was when I was at my local hospital auditory clinic, and there was a stall by the door where a very nice young man collared me and said would I like one of the cloth shopping bags .I said Oh thank you they are rather nice .so I duly pocketed it On arriving home I thought Mmm I'll put it in the boot of the car to use for my shopping .Looking at it more closely it said emblazoned on the side Stop Violence Against the Elderly !!! I must have looked a bit timid :):):)

:rotfl:I could not stop laughing at that.

I sent off for a free cloth bag but it has some weird camping slogans on it so I try and put that side to my body to hide it. I don't know why I didn't just think to turn it inside out. I'm going to do that now!:)

  • CHS and I need to stay overnight in a hotel next year. When I was booking the room I had a choice of prices, the either £140 or £150 which included a free breakfast.

My DD works in the sex toy industry, some of the freebies she brings home from the trade fairs would make your eyes water.

Had a few useful freebies over the years. Small packs of toiletries in a travel pack from airlines. The empty packs hold my first aid kits for holidays. Conferences where I've had a lovely golf umbrella and a golf jacket ( American company !) The golf jacket is windproof and lightweight so I always take it on the boat as breezy days can be chilly on the water. Water bottles, insulated food bags. The usual hotel stuff. The stress balls I gave to my MiL who suffered with problems with her hand so used them to exercise - maybe if anyone gets some in future the local age concern could use them? Love the idea of freebee bags - I have a few :) I've also been lucky enough to work in an industry where there is a lot of competition for your custom and the freebies have been spa days, corporate sailing days, Ascot and the Chelsea flower show. Now I'm retired it's just the charity Christmas cards which I hate!
Just realised there's a stupid blue plastic sucker toy from lidly stuck on my window ledge - I don't even know how it got there!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • I have always worked in the public sector, where freebies are few and far between, until I retired earlier this year. At conferences, I would sometimes acquire a promotional biro!
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

:p I have never conferenced in my life but the freebie-fest sounds awesome. Glad I don't have that problem.
Conferences where the freebies are high-calibre are a different ball-game altogether, which is why I said early on it depends on 'what circles you move in'. If you attend them a lot though you're likely to get bored of them.

Mr S is currently at a conference in the U.S (flew yesterday) and we were talking about freebies he'd been given there. Bags are quite often given, he lent one to student son this week taking home more than he'd arrived with. I have a coolbag in my car (slightly garish colour so wouldn't have paid for it). I'm looking forward to anything he brings back this time.
  • Depends what the freebie is if I'll take it or not. If it's food, I'll generally go for it, or something that can be useful such as pens or notebooks then fair enough - anything else such as brochures, cds etc probably not.

CHS and I need to stay overnight in a hotel next year. When I was booking the room I had a choice of prices, the either £140 or £150 which included a free breakfast.

Many years ago I rang a hotel to check prices for a week's holiday. I was quoted £25 a night bed and breakfast - I said I'd ring back to confirm.

When I rang back, I was asked if instead if I wanted bed, breakfast and dinner for £149 for the week! You bet I did!

Literally, I'd imagine! Do they come with an instruction manual? :rotfl:
