- The "free fruit for children" Tesco is doing at the moment. I did read a brave poster on here the other day took one for herself - but I admit to not being able to summon up the courage to do that myself...though it would probably help if Tesco realised every household (and not just one with children in) was taking an apple or banana etc per person.
We rarely shop at Mr T, but when we do (usually to buy popcorn to sneak into cinema) DD always takes some fruit and gives it to a homeless person.0 -

I go to a LOT of conferences, and generally try to avoid the freebies. At one recent event I had things delivered to my hotel room, so currently have two 'wireless chargers' for phones to offload (my phone doesn't charge wirelessly).
I have been accepting cotton shopping bags, and at the last couple of events also picked up some soft toys for a colleague who has a new baby, a couple of backpacks for my brother's kids and a LOT of water bottles as they were nice ones and we use lots of them. But I'm picky - after all, it all has to fit in my suitcase on the way home!0 -
Why didn't you just leave the chargers you didn't want in the hotel room? I'd have just left them and let the cleaning staff get the use of them or bin them.0

I have never conferenced in my life but the freebie-fest sounds awesome. Glad I don't have that problem.
I did, however, eyeball one of the remaining yellow rubber humanoids in the office today. I'm sure it wasn't there last week, perhaps me mentioning them called it back into existance. Or it was hiding on the above-head-height shelf with the big rubber spider from several halloweens ago........... :rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Because they would have gone in the bin then, and not been properly recycled, which given that they are a combination of electronics and plastics I'm keen to avoid. They took up next to no room in my luggage, otherwise I'd have reluctantly left them. I've found several people who want them (I had a feeling they'd be popular) so it isn't a problem.
I just get annoyed by the gift to hotel room thing as it means you don't get the choice to leave their tat with them. Then again, the other delivery to the hotel room was a very useful reusable bag intended for a beach clean on the last day - sadly I was on a plane at the time, otherwise I'd have joined in as it was a great idea (and proved very popular apparently).0 -
Never had freebies in teaching. In fact, most teachers end up buying bits for school. I used to take in pens, acquired by OH. I had to buy my own CD player and a trolley for my overhead projector.
Now that I've retired we have a build up of hotel pens - OH cannot leave one there.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Oh dear, I give away freebies. I make cloth shopping bags and take a couple with me when I go to Tesco. There is always someone who has not brought a bag with them so I hand them one of mine and say, here, take this one, it's free. The look of surprise on their face makes me smile. Occasionally someone says no thank you, but mostly they are chuffed and take it.

Thank you. I get the fabric virtually free, just counted up, got 20 ready. Some will be sold at the Christmas Fair for the local cat rescue, any left over I will give away.
On the whole I like freebies myself, we share resources at the Chat and Craft group, people know they can give me stuff and I will find a use for it. I sometimes have to say no thanks because I have got lots of art and crafty projects lined up.
I know what Grey Queen means though, there is far too much cheap plastic crap being made when it's not needed.
