I've had Select status for years, I wasn't aware that there were degrees of 'Selectness'

Since November 2017 there has been a “New” Select Account, albeit customers on the “old type” had to ask to be product changed as the T&C are different:

Are you sure? I cannot see two types of Select T&Cs, or the mention of two types of Select accounts, on the Santander website. What have I overlooked?

I think it is pretty clear from the thread I posted the link to: new T&C had a pay in requirement and automatic checks that these were met as well as different ATM limits and other variables. From the thread posting, it is clear that Santander, at least initially, did not automatically apply the changes as it happens at other banks when a product is amended (e.g. Barclays Premier’s Changes to the Picturehouse membership) to all customers but asked customer to “voluntarily” change over to the new offer, with many deciding to remain with the old offer to avoid automatic pay in checks...

MSE threads are interesting but they do not determine the T&Cs of banks. Where are the two different sets of T&Cs, and the two different types of Select accounts, on the Santander website? What are the "automatic pay in checks" you have mentioned? Where are the T&Cs for those?

Colsten, the old type is a closed product and it is no uncommon for banks not to have closed product information on their website. The T&C you can find are for the current available product. It is clear from the communication that the customers on that thread received, that the “new” Select account was a separate product and that customers had to specifically product change to it, which means that, at least initially, you were able to remain on the old product with lower ATM limit and no min pay-in checks for example. I am not sure why you believe to be not the case... The question would be simple: Did you apply (or were upgraded) for your Select account before end of November 2017 and if so, did you specifically asked to change to the new version at some point since? Or are you saying that you must have received communication that your account was automatically updated to the current T&C?

    Edited to add:

For what I hear the old “Select” was almost like a status applied to an account (either 1/2/3 or Gold account) from around 2015. It looks like in January 2019 (reference below) Santander have moved all remaining “Gold Account” holders to a different type of account but this may have not applied to “Select” account holders. In any case, as clearly stated in Santander’s official press release, the New Select account was launched in November 2017:

Marchitiello, my now quite ancient Select account has almost 100% the same features and T&Cs as a Select account that got opened since the relaunch of the scheme in 2017. The only difference is that I currently still have a gold Visa Debit card rather than a black one but I am not one to care for the colour of my debit card.

So just to be clear: there aren't any different shades of 'Selectness'. This doesn't mean that all Select account holders are making use of all the features which are available to them.

Colsten, so are you saying that you are the only one that had the same feature since 2015 (a bit reach call it ancient ) as for example the £1000 ATM limit? And everybody else reporting in that thread (including @JGUK that actually did change) that have been told by Santander to move to a new product were wrong (leaving aside Santander own communication)?
Just to be clear, we are not talking of different shades of Selectness, but of the existence of two different type of Products called Select, which for Santander own communication to the relevant customers, were separate and needed to be specifically changed over (at least at launch, not clear if the January 2019 “move to a different products” I posted the link to, included the old “Select” type (and therefore they moved you to the new account type now)

Anyway, back to my question, if anyone out there that is aware of being on the Select product launched in November 2017 (rather then 2015) has since downgraded to a 1/2/3 lite, can you confirm if you have retained the Select status (again mainly interested in the free cash withdrawals in NYC).

    Thanks

You will lose it, I downgraded mine to 123 lite, I lost the black card and the select status that appears when you log into online banking.

Many thanks for your reply and this confirmation, which contrast to ColdIron experience of downgrading to lite from probably the older Select type (“had the Select account for ages”) and looks to have retained Select Status

Of course I didn't have a £1,000 ATM limit before they announced a £1,000 ATM limit.

I am really bored now with you telling me what the T&Cs on my account are, and that I needed to move to a new Select account when I never had to do that. I shall just ignore further 'advice' from you from now on.
