Harassment by debt collection agency

  • It does, Neil, thank you very much. Although I understand recovery agencies aren't obliged to register with the FCA if they chase debts for small businesses, and therefore aren't actually regulated by any particular body. They appear to be outside the remit of the Financial Services Ombudsman, too, which is why I'm scratching my head overwho to complain to. But thanks sgain!
  • Wow.
Yes you did ask that, however you also said "I'd really appreciate any further advice on how to proceed".

Why didn't you just let them dismantle their work and take their materials away?

Your comment "Clearly they wouldn't have a leg to stand on in court." is totally incorrect. Follow the advice by pinkshoes or this could work out quite costly for you.

Er, because they were threatening to set fire to my house and I needed to dial 999? And since when was it ever appropriate for a firm to 'dismantle their work and take their materials away’ before they'd even issued an invoice?

They would, indeed, be laughed out of court.

Any relevant advice on reporting rogue debt collectors?

See post #10 - You've already been given the link.

Of course its appropiate - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqJo90K-ZfA

You seem to think you know what you're doing, even though it is wrong. Good luck.
  • Might be worth investing in a fire extinguisher just in case

Of course it wasn't 'appropriate’. I hadn't refused to pay them or even mentioned money. No reputable business would EVER behave in that manner. You must have had some really terrible experiences if you think that's acceptable - I'm sorry.

If money wasn't mentioned then how do you know they tried to charge you £720?
Nope, never had a terrible experience :)

I have a sneaky feeling they might deny making any threats if it came to court.

I could be wrong though. They may just hold their hands up a confess the whole lot in court.
