Hi all
I’m having a difficult time st the moment, the are 4 of us in a 1 bedroom maisonette I have been actively trying to move for the last year before my little one was born but I keep coming up short. I have tried the council list, house Exchange websites even Facebook.
I was wondering if anyone on here is looking to downsize to a 1 bed property from a 2/3 bed house or perhaps knows some one who is loooking to leave their social housing home to go else.where. I’m in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and would ideally like to stay in the area or this side of the river.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Vanessa

The only website worth using is https://www.homeswapper.co.uk . It's hard work looking and contacting people, many of whom don't reply but you will probably get there in the end with persistence.0

are you registered on your areas Home Choice sites? where you actively look for new listed properties? this will negate the swapping issues you have. you are seriously overcrowded, so priority, dependant on your current renting references, should be C or B.
our housing officer at the council may also be able to do direct match for properties within their remit - (other tenants having 25% bedroom tax and not paying and need downsizing etc)
speak to your housing advice team at the council and see what they can recommend. the only other option would be to go private0 -

I’m currrntly registered with House Exchange & Glassbob. I registered yesterday for home swapper but you have to pay £12 for 3 months, this is difficult on a single income.0

I am registered and I am actively looking however it’s extremely difficult what with my only having a 1 bed property with no outside space.
With regards to the council list we were on band C for 5 years as soon as I had my son I was told we would be overcrowded and would move to priority band B1 however they did not tell me that it would move me to the bottom on the list and reset my registration date for both bands so now I’m forced to wait again. As I have 2 little ones, pets and need a parking space it’s so hard to find a property with 4 bed spaces that’s lifted or ground floor that allows pets with possible outside space.
I didn’t think about the housing officer so I will try this as private is not an option I cannot afford nearly 2k rent a month plus bills.0 -

Hi Nessie21
I have never used the site but came across it along time ago and kept the link for future use if required.
Looking very quickly around it, I cant find any reference to fees other than your own removal cost. see the FAQs
Hope the helps0 -
Thanks i will have a look now0

A lot of HAs and council pay tenants homeswapper fees when they approve their registration. Have you asked if yours offers this?0
