Moving house - boxes and supplies

Hiya, thought i'd post this here as would be seen by ppl having a similar experience.

Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations or definate no-no's regarding buying removal boxes and supplies of the internet. I did a google search and it brought up thousands of sites so not sure how to go about getting the best deal.

Is it best to go with a "package" or would i save money just buying the boxes then getting the tape, bubble wrap and pens etc from Wilko (for instance)

I am in the same situation as you. Been asking friends and family but they only have the odd one.

Bought some plastic ones from In-store when they had them 3 for 2 for all the toiletries, photographs, cd's and dvd's. Things I didnt want damaged. But too expensive to pack all things in them.

When I was moving, I did research online and looked at some of the "packages", then went through and adapted to my needs... I then checked out a number of suppliers to find the cheapest quote for the stuff I needed.

For my purposes (1-bed flat but much more "stuff" than you'd expect!), the best quote was through www.a1boxes.co.uk (no affiliation)... but obviously it's much cheaper to get them second-hand!

Are you on Freecycle? Lots of people in my area have been advertising their boxes after they've moved (I'm about to advertise mine).

Try an electrical store, T.V boxes are excellent for this purpose.

My local store were happy to give them to me because they had to pay to bin them.

Good point - if you wonder round Salisbury City Centre before 7am on a Monday, there are empty boxes lying around everywhere - it's cardboard recycling day . Don't even have to ask, just fill up your car!

Obviously, I don't know what the situation is in Doncaster...

Obvious point, but just make sure that the box does not contain a tenant 1st.
An angry Yorkshireman is best avoided. :A

We bought a package from an established seller on Ebay. It was excellent quality, came with a number of freebies and cost under 40% of the slightly smaller package via Pickfords (who, I should add were excellent for the move itself)

Try your local recycling group (Freeshare/Freecycle). There's a few posts each month on mine offering and looking for boxes for house moves.

I went to my local supermarket and they gave me absoloutely loads of big boxes what the multipacks of crisps had been in. The boxes are strong, big and were free of charge :j

I've found that the boxes that wine/spirits come in are good for books as you can't overfill them.

We got a load of boxes from WH Smiths. I just asked one of the guys stacking the shelves and he got a load out of the back.
