I feel your pain. I used to live somewhere where they had 4 branches within 20 miles of each other, almost in a straight line of every 5 miles. I now live in another big town, no branch. No branches for at least 20-30 minute drives away. On my way to work, in three major towns, they are closing each of them this year. It's good TSB have branches in small villages as most banks don't and are usually the only one, but why places like St Alban's and Potters Bar are going I have no idea.
I now tend to make coin, cash and cheque deposits using the paying-in slips from the paying-in book they send out at Barclays, as they use the Giro to send the money. I now use Barclays for most Giro payments, whether for bills or paying in money to TSB. Although I know some banks don't issue paying in books.

Sluicer said:Moving this topic forward a bit...After 53 years of being a TSB account holder, and having my local branch closed in Burscough (where I lived for 25 years), then all Southport branches closed post-Lloyds merger & separation, I now find my nearest branch in Ormskirk has closed too - meaning my closest branch is Maghull. that's fifteen miles away. I now find the following problem when trying to deposit a cheque using TSB's option of the Post Office. I present the cheque & deposit slip - only to be told by the rather abrupt counter staff that this isn't possible because I need a TSB envelope from the bank. I check on the TSB website. TSB don't supply envelopes anymore - they tell you that the Post Office supply them. So I go back to the Post Office, still with the cheque and deposit slip and try to explain this minor point. This fails miserably, as the counter staff is even more abrupt with her reply. Apparently, the Post Office do not hold any paying-in envelopes for TSB customers. A quick check of the Post Office website reveals that they DO supply TSB paying-in envelopes. Can someone please tell the counter staff at 3 different Post Offices in Southport, because none of them believe me!! Honestly, this is ridiculous. Southport has a population of 90000, and used to have 4 TSB branches. Now there are none. I have no branch facilities within 15 miles and the Post Office 'solution' doesn't work. Why should I still bank with TSB?Got any other banks you can easily get too ?If so open an account there.0

I don't understand why there are so many towns closing branches, when my town of Louth has so many still open. Population in 2020 is 16, 419 so not really a large town, but we have Lloyds, Natwest, TSB, Santander, Barclays, HSBC, Halifax. We also have the Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire Building Societies. I think that it may be due to the large catchment area of villages that have no banks or Post Offices and have to come into town for banking and shopping. Plus there are (in normal times) 3 Market Days, which have now restarted. 3 of those banks are actually in the Market Place.
I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

@robisere Whereas TSB are closing St Alban's and Potters Bar, leaving that area with no branches at all for a large radius. Other towns close together have a TSB only a few miles apart. My town has a Halifax (Micro), Barclays, Lloyds, Santander, Nationwide, HSBC, NatWest and Harpenden Building Society.0
