Environmently I think brown paper is the way to go....... apparantly we're not
allowed to put ordinary xmas wrapping paper into our recycling box.

I put ALL paper/cardboard etc into my recycling box and as I always miss the collection I take it to the paper bank and dump the lot when I am doing the bottle run. They will probably recycle a lot more doing it that way and sorting it themselves into what they can and can;t use rather than me doing it and getting it all wrong!!!

This year I got 12m rolls of wrapping paper in a nice design from Instore for £1.50 per roll. I will probable have enough for the next 3 years as I bought 3 rolls of the stuff!!!!

I save old calendars and use the pictures to wrap small presents.

I usually buy a calendar for the following year when I'm on holiday showing that destination so the following year I have nice memories of where I've been and even when the year's finished can wrap husband's presents in it giving another reminder.

Just back from New York where I bought a 2008 calendar but am still wrapping with my Skye calendar 2006 (went in autumn 2005).

Was given Big Cats calendar a couple of years ago and my nephews loved having the lion and tiger pictures on their birthday presents.

I saw a program a few years back where the presenter photocopied sheet music onto A3 paper.

Not sure how much cheaper that would work out, maybe 20p a sheet? But it would be quite unusual

That's a really good idea! And very MSE if you use the photocopier at work....

There is some sheet music here:

we have used crepe paper before. It is very cheap.Sometimes it is a bit thin and then you need another paper underneath it or a plastic bag just so the recipient cant see the present through it.
That butchers paper makes good wrapping or end of rolls from a newspaper printers if you can get it.
I have heard of people using head scalves and table cloths as it is something the recipient can then use as well. A sort of bonus present and nothing to throw away.
  • this year i have wrapped all my presents in tissue paper as its cheap and more flexible than normal wrapping paper.

where do you get your recepies for home made cosmetics and toiletries as i was hoping to make some but haven't been able to find anything. please help!!

Brown parcel paper from Ikea here too :) Either finish with ribbons, string or raffia from the pound shop :) Then I add dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks or whatever comes to hand really... I also like adding cuts from our christmas tree or even red berries still on their branches. Just tie in in the bow. Looks very chic!
If you are giving presents to someone without dogs and children you could even add home made gingerbread tags in a cellophane bag with the "to from" piped on in icing :)

  • ohhh I like the gingerbread tag idea tine...definitely going to nab that, especially for the foodie hampers. :) thanks
  • The other year I went to varies DIY stores and got some large wallpaper samples. Got very stylish ones such as desinger and flocked. Tie with a bow and looks lovely. Everyone was amazed, but in a good way.
