Neighbour yelling at kids

My neighbour shouts at her kids every day. I don't mean the odd loud word but proper shouting. Sometimes she starts early whilst I'm still in bed. It's every day.
It's not so much the noise, it's pretty muffled and the TV blocks most of it out. The problem is I find it really unsettling. The kids are young. 2 of them under 4. She swears at them as well.
I understand having young kids is stressful and what is acceptable behaviour ( in terms of discipline) for one person isn't for another. I'm torn whether to just ignore it. It's her kids and they are probably used to it. Or report it because no child should be yelled at and sworn at like this.

Could you help in any way - offer to take them out as she's obviously stressed. It's a difficult one to tackle for the best but if you could help her without being intrusive, but possibly suggest that you realise that she has a lot on.
It must be hard on the kids as it does affect them.

This is not acceptable behaviour for anyone.

Shouting and swearing at them like this is abuse and I would have a word with the NSPCC, not social services. They may be able to advise you.

Snap. Lovely old lady next door died and the family rent it out through the council who promptly moved in the scum. Worse in the summer with the windows open effing and jeffing from 5am onwards. You have my sympathy OP.
  • Reminds me of when I was a teacher, and had to invite a mother in to school to discuss her son, who had been swearing (Y2 class). She said, and I quote, 'I've told him a million times not to f...ing well swear.' Some kids are doomed from the get-go.
You can report anonymously to NSPCC.

I don't feel I could offer help. I'm out the house working 7:30am till 6pm and the most we have said to each other is hi. I'm sure she would find it weird if I offered. I do see the angle of offering help rather than reporting her / complaining though.
Just as I'm typing this i have heard her shouting ' you are a *uck*ing liar!' I never really hear the husband much.
The kids always look well dressed and they smile and wave as we pass in the street but all the shouting and swearing doesn't sit well with me. I know another neighbour told her to be quiet once. As I say it's not so much the noise but the context. I'd be surprised if she thinks I can't hear it. Maybe she just sees it as normal.

There are plenty of people who mainly converse by shouting.
    It's learned behaviour.
I'm not It saying it's acceptable.

Is what you're hearing different to how you would choose to behave or signs of harmful behaviour? Some people are more shouty and sweaty, some feed their children more junk food and sweets than others think is right, some let their children stay up really late, some parents are really strict and rigid, etc. Only you are hearing this so only you can judge whether this is just parenting you disapprove of or possible abuse. If you think it might be the latter them don't hesitate to report it.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Don't bother with NSPCC, they will just make a note of the concerns and pass them to the statutory agency (Social Services) anyway.

Please report this, it isn't acceptable. It's better to err on the side of caution with child protection.
