I contacted the Pip inquiry line and they told me they do not contact your doctor for any information its up to the individual to provide information.

Called the doctors they told me DWP claim they tell you they contact the doctors for information, but in practise they don't and she was looking into her own record and no request was made when claiming pip?
A GP will very often assume or even tell you that if DWP require any information then they will contact them. This isn't correct. It's the claimants responsibility to send the evidence to support a claim and prove you qualify and not their responsibility to prove you do. They very rarely contact anyone. This is the same for ESA and UC LCW.

I never sent any evidence for my son's esa or pip claim but they knew everything about his medical history so they must of contacted his GP.
  • Actually there's not "always one rolleyes" I'll be number 2. I'm on enhanced for both components for pip and support group of ESA, I sent no evidence at all, I explained fully on my form what's wrong with me, first diagnosed 15 years ago and there's absolutely no point in me going to the doctor as there's nothing at all they can do for me so it would be pointless, this was the change over from DLA to PIP and they looked at my DLA file where they did have a 15 year old letter from the doc but nothing since then, the assessor was a paramedic and she could see that I was continually shaking and walked off balance, she didn't do any examination, just asked a few questions, asked if I had a blue badge and mobility car and that was that, I was awarded for 10 years.

So they did have evidence, they had your DLA file!

However, if it's a genuine claim and there genuinely is little or no evidence it is still worth applying. I sent no evidence for PIP and only very basic evidence for ESA. I was awarded enhanced rate for an ongoing period for PIP and placed in the support group for ESA

I was given esa support for the second time this year with very little useful evidence as it doesn't exist most of it being over 10 years old.

Stop with the success stories, we all know it's bad news for everyone who makes a claim ;)
    It's nothing , not nothink.

Well if that's all that's needed I don't know what those who are transferred from DLA to PIP are worrying about with getting medical evidence as all that happens is they look at your DLA file and you will get the same award.

Rarely contact anyone so anybody can put anything on an application form it should be verified and checked with banks, council, NHS. Do they not check the electoral roll to see number of people living in a property anyone can do it with your address?

I did read once that all claims nowadays are streamlined through because of the number of application they simply do not have the time, money or manpower to do background checks.

What are you talking about? Your question was about sending evidence to support a disability claim. Why on earth would they contact banks, local councils and electoral rolls for this??
  • They usually do their own medical which doesn't involve much. But if you disagree with it you can ask your GP to provide a letter supporting you & they will have to consider your appeal.

They would contact the bank to see if you have over £16,000 in savings. Contact the council to see how many residents are registered at the property. Electoral roll to see if your registered to vote as a British citizen.
