My shop does do cashback, Some customers want some of it in change for buses, car park machines etc.
If any customer wants change - ask the cashier - "can I have a few 50ps" "I don't want a fiver"This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If Sainsbury want to reduce the time it takes to get through check outs it needs to look at its self. The major hold up at Sainsbury stores is the coupons issued by Sainsbury and customers cashing them in.
Whilst on the point of Supermarket loyalty coupons, who owns the money held in these schemes? Is it the customer or is it the Supermarket?
Kind Regards

Anything to save time when checking out is good, and I can't think of any store that doesn't have a cash machine outside it these days, so you can always get cash there. But then again, the cashpoint doesn't always work, or sometimes it takes a while to get cash from the cashpoint because of a queue. Also, it's not an attractive option if the weather's bad.
Essentially, I feel like the decision is "our convenience, not yours". Honestly, if they wanted to decrease time spent at the checkout for the good of us "valued customers", they could hire more checkout staff. I don't think I've EVER seen all checkouts in use at any given time at any supermarket, let alone Sainsbury's. Plus, the fact that many have been lost to those infuriating self-service machines just compounds the matter!
In saying that, I also can't remember the last time I've asked for cashback (last time will have been years ago), so maybe it's a bit of a non-issue, at least for me.0 -
Have two Sainsburys near me - one about 10 mins walk from my work and another 2.5 miles from there. The latter doesn't do cashback.
I get on with the workers at the former store. Majority of customers that get cashback are elderly and can't walk far and use part of the cashback for paying their taxis for going home. Then some cashback is for £5 - unsure if they have just that left in their bank account or just want a few pounds cash.
I can see in a few years time, no shop will be offering cashbackThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I don't want to be trying to withdraw cash from an ATM outside a busy supermarket after I've already queued for ages to pay for my shopping, nor do I want to have queue for a second time at the customer services/lottery ticket/cigarette/stamps counter for cash. It takes seconds for a cashier to hand me cash back.
This so-called cashless society does not suit everybody. I pay a gardener, hairdresser, a window cleaner and an odd job man in cash. I pop to the local shops for milk and a loaf, I pay cash.
Yes, I use a card for a major shop, but when people are on a tight budget it is easier to keep track on what you have left to spend that week or month when you have the cash in your wallet.0 -

I pay my hairdresser and chiropodist cash. Then when we have a works do, we pay cash for the initial price, pay cash for drinks and taxi as its easierThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If Sainsbury's want to get customers through the tills quicker it would be better if they trained there staff to work quicker. When packing my shopping I'm always standing there waiting for the next item.
I don't want to queue twice once at the checkout and again at the cash point. Also many customers would feel safer collecting their money in a well lit store rather than outside feeling vulnerable at an ATMFashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
79.5 coupons rolled over 4/75.5 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases

It may get changed dependent on the feedback they receive.0

My Dds ma-in-law was widowed this year and at 81 often was able to use the little sainsburys locally (tiny shop like a Tesco's metro ) now its stopped cash back she said when I visited her a week or so ago would I come with her into the bank and she got £100 out to see her through to the new year as she had small different amounts to pay her veg delivery chap, the milkman ,etc I told her its fine and in the new year when I visit again I will take her into town so she can get any more that she may need. She is a bit nervous of using an outside cash machine and being a bit frail as well I don't blame her. Still I suppose the shops will do what they wish regardless of what customers require. I can't see that it will speed anything up much though. Get more manned tills would be a better answer. Look in Aldi's or Lidl's or even Morrisons apparently they don't like to see people queing too much and will shift floor staff pretty quickly to tills if they get long queues and when its quiet they are moved back to shelf stacking, better use and happier customers0

Supermarkets are not banks. Offering cash back is not part of their business model and it slows the queue down. I have never really worked out why they started offering this but as far as I am concerned, everyone should aim to pay by card ...... NOT compulsory but obligatory for the majority.0
