Fine for having no tax - not my fault?

But I thought it WAS taxed. How could I have known it wasn't?
How much easier would you like it to be? https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax
The fact that you had not received the log book should have prompted you to start looking into the cars documentation. As the owner/registered keeper you cannot avoid responsibility I am afraid.
If the invoice for the car states 12 months tax you may be able to persuade the dealer to offer some compensation as a goodwill gesture but they may hold the same view as many others in that it is your responsibility to check.0 -

But why would I do that when as far as I was concerned, my vehicle was taxed for 12 months? Do you perform that search ever?
Its part of your responsibility as a car owner/driver.
I even ASK MID when I insure or renew my car insurance, also after I pay the VED and after MOT's.
What you fail to realise is that if the dealer had bought you 12 months worth of VED you have still driven for months after it expired.
I wonder if you have MOT'd as well?0 -
When did this incident of being clamped happen?
Was it more than 12 months after your purchase?
Why did you not ask EH for a contribution towards the clamping fees at the time?
Have you spoken to EH about the fine?3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0 -

I did a year ago on my wife's car. Turned out she hadn't taxed it for 11 months. Never had a notice or anything from DVLA and no fine either. Taxed the car and then bought a lottery ticket. Lottery ticket didn't win though...0
